Stock Market Today: Volatility has increased in the stock markets after the record rise in the country's India VIX index. After opening with slight improvement, Sensex managed to cross the level of 74 thousand. But later the fall continued and at 10.41 am it fell 422.66 points and was trading at 73474. Nifty was trading 119.65 points down at 22323.05.
Today is the third phase of voting for Lok Sabha elections 2024. After the Gaza ceasefire, tension has once again increased in the Middle East. Due to the market being overvalued even at the local level, investors are now in the mood for profit booking. Instability is usually seen during Lok Sabha elections.
Lower circuit imposed on 206 shares
Today 206 shares hit lower circuit of up to 5 per cent on BSE. Out of 184 shares, 157 shares reached the year's highest level with upper circuit. Out of 3636 stocks traded on BSE, 1203 are in the rise and 2286 are in the decline. Investors' capital worth Rs 3.39 lakh crore was lost.
Smallcap midcap fell more than 1 percent
Smallcap and midcap stocks fell by more than 1 percent today. FMCG index is trading up by 2.24 percent, Merico is up by 8.57 percent, Dabur is up by 5.83 percent, Hindustan Unilever is up by 4.74 percent. Except FMCG, all sectoral indices are trading on the decline.
