Kannauj: Be it SP or BJP or BSP, challenges are in front of everyone

Kannauj, 03 May (Hindus). These days, political fragrance continues in the perfume city Kannauj. Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia became the first MP on this seat, which came into existence in the year 1967. There is a challenge for SP to hoist the flag of socialism in his workplace and repeat the victory in front of BJP. The electoral battle has become interesting with SP President Akhilesh Yadav himself entering the fray from here. There is a direct contest between SP and BJP.

The political landscape of Kannauj is such that Mulayam Singh Yadav became MP from here, Sheila Dikshit and Akhilesh Yadav became Chief Minister. After Mulayam's resignation, Akhilesh became MP for the first time in the by-election held in 2000. He also won in 2004 and 2009. In 2012, his wife Dimple became MP unopposed on the seat vacated by his resignation. Dimple again won in 2014 but had to face defeat in 2019.

In the scorching sun, the fields are empty in most areas of the state, but as soon as we enter the border of Kannauj, flourishing crops of maize and vegetables are visible. Cold storages are visible on whatever road you go on. All this paints a rosy picture. But as soon as we talk to the farmers, the ugly side of the picture starts to emerge. When we reached Nizampur village, we found many people sitting under the shade of a tree. As soon as the election discussion starts, Anees instead of saying anything shows Akhilesh's photo on his mobile. Rafiq present with him smiles as if he is agreeing with Anees. But, both are not ready to say anything in front of the camera. Then Dinakaran Rajput, who reached there on bicycle, also joined the discussion. He says, BJP has not done anything for the farmers.

When he reached Talgram, the farmer Balwant Shakya met there tries to clear his intentions by raising the issue of stray animals. But, sitting next to him

Rakesh Rajput stops Balwant by appealing for Kisan Samman Nidhi. Shankar Singh also interrupts. It is said that wheat, paddy and potatoes are being procured by the government. Rajesh Yadav standing nearby could not control himself. He fell down on the ground. It is said that Kisan Samman Nidhi is like cumin in the mouth of a camel. Life will not go on like this. Unless agriculture-based industries are established, there will be no prosperity. Now perfumes are made from chemicals instead of flowers. This is also an injury to the farmers. Rajneesh Singh says that the canal was dug from Bewar to Talgram during the SP government. But, the BJP government could not even arrange for water. Due to this, farmers are not able to irrigate.

Crop twice, still no potato based industry

Farmers of Kannauj harvest potatoes twice, but there are no potato-based industries here. They keep the potatoes in cold storage and sell them at the local market price under compulsion. Farmer Shivgulam says, many times farmers have to throw away potatoes. Government procurement of potatoes started, but the conditions created such a dilemma that everything remained confused. At the same time, Shambhu Dayal of Makrand Nagar says that although the perfume park was built, the businessmen associated with it did not get any special benefit.

Status of perfume city, employment is nominal

People sitting in a dispensary near Tirva crossing in Kannauj city were busy in election discussions. We too kept agreeing while listening to his words. Dr. Kailash Babu Pal says, this government has ended employment. Like stray animals, youth are also wandering in search of work. Ajit Singh says, now even the perfume business has come to a standstill. Shopkeeper Sanjay Pandey says, at least law and order is fine. That's why we will stay with BJP only. Then Narul Hasan quips and says then why do you cry about tax. Vikram, Rajit Ram and Santosh, laborers engaged in the ongoing construction work next to the Government Archaeological Museum in Kannauj city, say that they are getting food grains but nothing else. There is no permanent employment.

Case of burning of consolidation documents is burning

In 1990, the documents of consolidation of 34 villages kept in a thatched bungalow in Farrukhabad were burnt. This becomes an issue in every election. Advocate Sandeep Dixit says that there is a continuous struggle to get these documents in order. Now Nandlalpur and Kunwarpur became the documents of Karnauli. The rest have started being built. Due to lack of documents, people of these villages do not get the benefit of any government scheme. Land possession disputes are increasing.

There has been development, but no treatment facilities

The advocate sitting in the chamber in Chhibramau tehsil was seen engrossed in political discussion. Advocate Ajit Kumar Mishra says, rail lines, flyovers and highways have been built. There is no hospital facility. Mo. Dawood says, the BJP government could not arrange doctors and staff in the hospital built under the SP government. Advocate Rajneesh gives credit for the development work here to SP, while Devesh Mishra refutes his point by supporting nationalism, while Sanjeev Dubey supports BJP by saying that security is paramount.

Warriors of this summer…

• Akhilesh Yadav, SP: He has the support of the development works done by his government and the traditional vote bank. The challenge is to keep the extremely backward castes connected.

• Subrata Pathak, BJP: Pathak is on the basis of BJP's traditional vote bank, the work of the Central Government and the names of Modi-Yogi. The challenge is to remove the resentment of businessmen and other upper caste voters.

• Imran Bin Zafar, BSP: Imran has contested elections in 2014 on a common man's ticket. He is a native of Kanpur and a businessman. BSP cadre are busy in wooing Muslims along with vote bank.

Voters sensing the direction of the wind

Rakesh, who was found at a clothes shop in Tirwa town, says that the MPs are neighbors and have never seen each other. Voting is a compulsion. Avnish Kumar Gupta sitting next to him says that if he comes, not even the SP President will come, but some big work can be done. Anand Kumar Jain says that we are looking at Modi. Doesn't matter to the candidate. Similarly, Prabal Pratap Singh, met in Bela Bazaar of Bidhuna assembly constituency, says that the election temperature is rising. Ajay Kumar says that there is a close contest between SP and BJP. There is a drainage problem in Bela. Jagat Singh says that we are with Netaji.

The equation keeps changing

Vimal Jatav and Shakeel are teachers who met in Sarai Ghagh. Their argument is that till 2014, Kannauj seat was occupied by Yadavs, Muslims along with Shakyas, Pals and 50 per cent Lodhs along with other backward class castes. Not only did Lodh go with the BJP in the 2014 elections, but due to the weakening of the BSP, Dalit sub-castes also joined the BJP. BSP has definitely fielded a Muslim candidate in this election, but a Dalit-Muslim alliance is visible. On the other hand, in the Murthy incident in Tirwa, Lodhi leaders of SP have tried to connect this vote bank by showing activism.
