Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Due to the implementation of the Model Code of Conduct for the Lok Sabha elections, the Examination Revision Committee of Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board has not called its regular meeting.
The code of conduct has led to delays in standard procedures, including hearing of students suspected of cheating in this year's Class 10 and 12 exams.
GSHSEB has sought permission from the Election Commission to hold meetings and address fraud cases. This request was sent ten days ago, and as of now, they are still waiting for a response.
Meanwhile, the All Gujarat State School Management Association has expressed concern over the delay in the meeting and its possible impact on the declaration of results.
A GSHSEB member said there is also a lack of clarity on whether the electoral body's approval is necessary for a key seat, which is part of the standard procedure, and whether it falls within the ambit of the model code of conduct.
It is hereby noted that, in case of further delay, the Board may consider options to withhold or delay the results of students suspected of cheating. According to a GSHSEB official, this delay in the meeting will also affect the process of supplementary examinations.
The examination committee of the board conducts a physical hearing involving the suspected candidates, their parents and the examination center staff.
The result of the candidate is determined based on the decision of the committee. The hearing process may take two to three weeks depending on the complexity of the case.
These cases of cheating include instances of mass cheating detected by flying squads, captured in examination center CCTV and instances identified during evaluation of answer sheets.
