Ukraine Russia News: Russia fired three missiles at Ukraine, 17 killed

Amid the Kiev-Moscow dispute, Russia on Thursday launched a missile attack on Chernihiv, Ukraine. 17 people died in this attack, while 61 people were injured. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the death toll was likely to rise. He blamed Ukraine's air defense for the death.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky issued a statement saying, “If Ukraine had adequate air defense equipment, such attacks would not have occurred. Terrorists kill people only when someone is ready to stop and confront them.”

Most of the dead were young people

“I myself saw bloodied bodies inside damaged cars on the street,” said Chernihiv city head Oleksandr Lomako. “I looked at the dates of birth of the victims, many of the dead were young.” He further said that rescue workers are still searching for victims in the debris. “This attack shows that Ukraine needs air defense equipment,” Lomako said.

The city of Chernihiv is located on the border with Russia and missiles are often seen in the sky here. “A 25-year-old police lieutenant was among those killed in the Russian firing,” Ukraine's Interior Minister Ihor Klimenko said. “A woman from a neighboring house, who was on leave due to illness, was seriously injured,” he said.

Let us tell you that in the initial phase of Russia-Ukraine conflict, Russia had surrounded Chernihiv. According to reports, people returned to the area after the Russians were driven out and Ukraine's air defenses improved. Chernihiv is located near the border of Russia and Belarus, about 150 kilometers from the capital Kiev. The population of this area is approximately 2,50,000. On Thursday, Russia fired three missiles in this area. Ukraine is now becoming weak due to lack of military equipment.
