Big alert from SBI! UPI service will remain halted for a long time on this day, immediately note down the date and timing; Know how the necessary payments will be made

The country’s largest public sector bank, State Bank of India (SBI) has issued an important advisory for its more than 50 crore customers. According to the official statement of the bank, due to strengthening of digital banking infrastructure, increasing server capacity and technical upgradation (Scheduled Maintenance Activity), SBI’s UPI services will be temporarily disrupted during the upcoming scheduled period.

The bank has clarified that this routine maintenance is being done in the core banking architecture to provide a secure and seamless digital experience to the customers. During the maintenance window, any type of UPI transactions (P2P and P2M) done through SBI account holders will not be processed.

To minimize inconvenience to customers, the Bank Administration has scheduled this technical function during midnight and early morning hours, when the traffic of digital transactions is generally the lowest:

  • Maintenance Date: Upcoming weekend (midnight Saturday-Sunday)

  • Affected time: late night 12:30 am from morning 04:30 AM till (about 4 hours)

  • Affected platforms: All UPI transactions through Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, BHIM SBI Pay and YONO SBI

If you are traveling late at night, booking a cab, or preparing for any emergency payment, make necessary fund transfer or cash arrangements well in advance of this time period.

The following digital operations related to SBI accounts will not be possible during the scheduled maintenance window:

  1. Third-party UPI apps: No payment can be sent from SBI bank account on apps like PhonePe, Google Pay, Amazon Pay and Paytm, nor can merchant payment be made by scanning the QR code.

  2. Incoming and Outgoing UPI: Transferring money from any other bank to your SBI account through UPI may cause the transaction to fail.

  3. Balance Enquiry: The facility to check account balance on UPI apps will also show time-out during this period.

The bank has clarified that during this period, only the UPI servers are being maintained, while other traditional and alternative digital channels will continue to function normally:

means of payment Situation How to use?
Debit/Credit Card fully operational Make payment by swiping/tapping at any merchant POS machine or by entering card details on online shopping sites.
ATM cash withdrawal fully operational You can withdraw cash from any nearest SBI or other bank ATM at night.
Internet Banking (INB) Active Funds can be transferred through IMPS or NEFT through SBI’s official net banking (onlinesbi.sbi).
YONO Internet Mode partially active Non-UPI features (like quick transfer) can be used within the YONO app.

  • Complete advance payment: If any bill payment, EMI or ticket booking deadline is falling that night, complete the process at least 2 hours before the maintenance begins.

  • Keep emergency cash nearby: To avoid any inconvenience at petrol pump, medical store or while traveling late at night, keep enough cash or SBI debit card with you.

  • Avoid cyber fraud: During maintenance, if someone pretending to be a bank official asks you to activate UPI, OTP, CVV or click on any link, then do not fall into the trap. The bank never asks for personal credentials in the name of system maintenance.
