A very inspiring case has come to light in a government school in Karnataka to awaken the spirit of education and motivate children from rural backgrounds to perform better. While increasing attendance and interest in studies is often considered a big challenge in government schools in rural areas, one dedicated teacher literally gave wings to the dreams of his students. At the very beginning of the session, the teacher had put a condition before the students of his class that whichever student would get top position in the examination or would score excellent marks, he would make him travel by plane at his personal expense. This unique promise filled such energy within the children that the students studied day and night, and when the exam results came, the teacher also kept his promise with full devotion and spent thousands of rupees from his own pocket to give the children a memorable experience of air travel.
For most children growing up in rural areas, an airplane is just a toy like a white streak flying in the sky or a paper boat. Many of these students were such who had never even seen a train or a big city properly. In such a situation, when the brilliant students who scored excellent marks in the examination reached the airport wearing their uniforms, the glow and enthusiasm on their faces was worth seeing. The joy of the children knew no bounds as they took the boarding passes in their hands and stepped inside the giant plane parked on the runway. Sitting on the window seat and looking at the views below while floating above the clouds was like a fairy tale come true for these little promising people.
The teacher happily spent around ₹50,000 of his hard-earned money on air tickets, local tours and accommodation for the children. The teacher says that there is no dearth of talent among the children of rural areas, they just need the right direction, faith and a little encouragement. He said, “My aim was not just to get good marks in the children, but to instill in them the belief that if they work hard, they can reach any height in life. This expenditure of ₹ 50,000 is not a burden for me, but a very small price for the bright future of these promising children of mine and their smiles.”
When these children returned to their village and school after completing the air journey, they were welcomed with thunderous applause and flower garlands in the entire school premises. The eyes of these children were shining with pride while sharing the experience of sitting in the plane. The biggest and positive impact of this entire journey was that now the rest of the students of the school have also started competing to score more than 90 percent marks and top in the next examinations. Parents have also praised this selfless step of the teacher and said that this trust of the teacher has changed the thinking towards education in the entire village forever. Even on social media, people are praising the beautiful story of this guru-disciple and are calling it an example of the Indian education system.
