Politics heated up over portrayal of Netaji in the teaser of Prabhas’ film ‘Fauji’

While the recently released teaser of Prabhas’ film ‘Fauji’ had increased the curiosity among the fans, on the other hand it has also given rise to a new controversy. In this teaser of the film, it is shown that the great freedom fighter Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose is seen introducing an imaginary character of Prabhas and talking about various verses and codes of Bhagavad Gita.

The family members and followers of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose have not liked this presentation at all. Netaji’s grand nephew Chandra Kumar Bose has strongly objected to the fact that it is absolutely wrong to distort the personality and political history of Netaji, one of the country’s biggest national heroes, with fictional stories in films. He believes that doing so not only affects the dignity of the great historical figure but also sends a wrong message to the coming generation.

Chandra Kumar Bose wrote a letter to the I&B Minister, raised questions on the functioning of the Censor Board.

Expressing his displeasure over this serious matter, Chandra Kumar Bose on Tuesday made public the letter written to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on his official ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) handle. In his letter, he has directly tagged the Information and Broadcasting Minister of the country and requested for immediate intervention in this matter.

Using strong words in his letter, Chandra Kumar Bose wrote, “We cannot understand at all how the Censor Board passed such objectionable and misleading content. We strongly protest against the portrayal of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose in such a fictional and contextless manner in the film.” He has also urged the government that this entire matter should be investigated thoroughly and it should be ensured that this objectionable teaser is removed from all platforms with immediate effect. Along with this, he has also demanded strict action against the responsible officials of the Censor Board who had given permission to release this teaser.

‘History should be corrected by removing the teaser’, PM Modi was also tagged

Amidst this entire controversy, Chandra Kumar Bose has also tagged the country’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his social media post and appealed to him to take cognizance of this matter. Reiterating his demand, he said that this teaser of the film ‘Fauji’ should be removed from the online platforms for now and if the makers want to release it again, then it should be improved to suit the historical facts.

Chandra Kumar Bose says that this film should not be allowed to go ahead without addressing the concerns related to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. However, he also clarified that he wishes a bright future for Prabhas and the entire team of the film ‘Fauji’, but no one can be allowed to play with the history of the country’s freedom fighters in the name of creative freedom. He expressed hope that the director of the film Hanu Raghavapudi Will understand the seriousness of this entire matter and will take appropriate steps.

Tampering with history vs cinematic freedom: What will be the next reaction of the makers?

The era of making films on historical and political personalities is old in Indian cinema, but many times the makers get into controversies due to the mix of fiction and facts. The same is being seen in the case of the film ‘Fauji’, where the director has taken the risk of including the character of Netaji within a fictional story.

Now that a member of an eminent family of the country and grandson of Netaji has approached the ministry officially objecting to it, there is a huge pressure on the makers of the film and Prabhas’ team. The entire nation’s eyes are on whether the makers will make changes in the teaser to calm down this controversy or issue an official statement. In the coming days, this controversy may once again spark a big debate in the Indian film industry regarding censorship and portrayal of historical characters.
