New Delhi/Tech Desk. The monthly budget of common consumers has been greatly affected after the increase in mobile tariffs by major telecom companies in the country. Especially in families where four to five members use different prepaid numbers, thousands of rupees are spent on recharge every month. Reliance Jio’s special ‘Family Postpaid Plan’ has brought a solution to this problem of draining the pockets of consumers. The biggest feature of this plan is that in this, the head of the family gets free from the hassle of recharging again and again by remembering different dates for each member. Four mobile numbers remain active simultaneously in a single bill cycle and the average monthly spend per person comes down to much less than a normal prepaid plan.
Under Jio’s family postpaid portfolio, the company mainly offers two most popular plans—₹399 and ₹699 monthly plans. In this system, there is a ‘primary’ i.e. main connection, under which the consumer can add maximum 3 other members of his family (Add-on SIMs) to the same account.
-
₹399 Family Plan: This is the most affordable family pack of Jio. In this, the primary user gets 75GB high-speed data. With this, 3 additional family members can be added. Every added additional member is given 5GB additional data every month absolutely free from the company. This increases the total data pool to 90GB. There is a nominal charge of only ₹99 per month per additional SIM.
-
₹699 Family Plan: If data consumption in the family is high or children do more online education and video streaming, then this plan proves to be most suitable. It offers 100GB of main data and 3 additional family SIMs can be added to it. In this plan also, 5GB additional data is available on each additional SIM. Apart from this, this plan also includes a free bundle of OTT subscriptions (like Netflix Basic and Amazon Prime Lite).
All four numbers added to the family plan get complete freedom individually. The main benefits available under the plan are as follows:
-
Unlimited Voice Calls: All four mobile numbers provide completely unlimited free calling facility during local, STD and national roaming on any network across the country.
-
Daily 100 Free SMS: Every number gets 100 free local and national SMS per day.
-
Data Rollover Facility: If the entire 75GB or 100GB data is not used in a month, the remaining data is added to the next month’s account. Data rollover facility up to 500GB is provided in this plan, due to which the data never goes waste.
-
True 5G Unlimited Data: If family members have 5G smartphones and fall within Jio’s ‘True 5G’ network coverage area, they can enjoy unlimited 5G internet without exhausting the main data quota.
To put it mathematically, if four members of a family separately take a normal prepaid plan of 1.5GB/day with validity of 28 days or 84 days, then each number costs an average of ₹299 to ₹349 per month. That means the total monthly expenditure of four numbers reaches approximately ₹ 1,200 to ₹ 1,400. Whereas, if the family chooses Jio Family Plan of ₹399, the total bill including base rental ₹399 and charge for 3 additional SIMs (₹99 x 3 = ₹297) comes to ₹696. Even after adding 18% GST, the total monthly expenditure comes to around ₹820. If this is divided among four members, then the monthly expenditure per person comes to only around ₹ 205. This means that every month ₹ 400 to ₹ 500 is directly saved in the family account.
