Ruckus over Kharge’s effigy in Patna, young man ran away on bike after hearing siren

A very strange and high-voltage drama was witnessed on the streets of Patna, the capital of Bihar, when Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers started playing cat-and-mouse with the police along with the effigy of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge. Enraged by the indecent remarks and controversial statements made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP workers had organized a protest at the main intersection of Patna. But as soon as the sirens of the police patrol vehicles sounded, a BJP worker picked up Kharge’s effigy, put it on the back of his bike and ran away at a gallop. This entire incident was captured in the cameras present there and is now going viral on social media. This unique and chaotic demonstration has created huge political heat on the streets of Patna, where on one hand BJP workers are seen in an aggressive mood, while on the other hand the police force is trying its best to maintain the law and order of the city.

The main root of the controversy is the controversial statement given by Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge during a public meeting, in which he used indecent words against the top leadership of the country. As soon as the news of this statement spread through media and social media, there was anger among BJP supporters across the country as well as in Bihar’s capital Patna. Hundreds of BJP Yuva Morcha and party workers gathered near Patna’s Dak Bungalow intersection and Income Tax Golambar with flags and placards in their hands. The workers raised slogans and termed the Congress leadership as ‘cultureless’ and ‘dignified’. The protesters said that ideological differences can be acceptable in a democracy, but making indecent remarks on the country’s Prime Minister and his ancestors is a direct insult to Indian culture and political correctness.

When BJP workers were about to burn the effigy at a busy intersection in Patna, the sirens of police vehicles deployed for security there started ringing loudly. Seeing the policemen coming towards them, the strategy of burning the effigy was immediately changed. Fearing action and confiscation, an over-enthusiastic BJP worker pounced upon the effigy, loaded it on the bike with his pillion companion and rode away at full speed. Police personnel ran after it in vehicles and on foot, but taking advantage of the traffic and narrow streets, the activist managed to take the effigy to a safe place. Seeing this entire drama, the common passers-by and media persons present at the intersection could not stop laughing. The police officers were stunned for some time, however, later additional forces were called and the situation at the intersection was made smooth.

After this drama of effigy incident, senior BJP leaders held a joint press conference in Patna. The leaders made it clear that the people of Bihar will never tolerate this indecent statement of Kharge. He said that this protest is not going to stop until the Congress President publicly apologizes unconditionally to the people of the country and the Prime Minister. BJP workers have warned that they will gherao Sadaqat Ashram (state Congress headquarters in Patna) in the coming days and will launch a phased agitation at district headquarters across the state. The leaders allege that due to the continuous defeat in the elections, the top leadership of the Congress has lost its mental balance and has resorted to bad language.

The war of words has always been fierce in the politics of Bihar, but this drama on the streets of Patna has made the upcoming political atmosphere even more heated. Political experts believe that personally attacking Prime Minister Modi has always proved politically harmful for the opposition. BJP is leaving no stone unturned to capitalize on this issue and is trying to set the narrative of Congress’s ‘culturelessness’ among the general public. On the other hand, Patna Police has increased security patrolling in sensitive areas so that a direct encounter situation does not arise between the workers of both the parties. This incident of running away with a mannequin on a bike after hearing the siren has now become a topic of discussion in the political circles of Bihar.
