Horrific road accident at midnight on Agra-Lucknow Expressway: Three trucks collided with each other

A heartbreaking road accident took place in the early hours of Monday on Uttar Pradesh’s very busy high-speed corridor Agra – Lucknow Expressway. At around 2:30 in the night, at milestone kilometer number 22.300 of the expressway under Fatehabad police station area, three big goods trucks moving back and forth went out of control and collided with each other. The collision was so severe that the cabin of the truck stuck in the middle was completely crushed, due to which the driver died tragically on the spot after being buried under the debris. The drivers of the other two trucks were seriously injured. After the accident, there was an outcry on the expressway and the wheels of other vehicles coming from behind also stopped. As soon as the information was received, the local police and UPEDA patrol team immediately swung into action and relief and rescue operations were started.

The magnitude of the accident can be gauged from the fact that the sound of trucks colliding with each other was heard far away. The patrol team immediately cut open the damaged cabin with the help of cranes and rescue equipment and pulled out the trapped drivers. The body of the deceased driver was taken into custody and sent to the mortuary located at Agra district headquarters after filling the Panchnama, while both the injured drivers were immediately admitted to the nearby medical centers, where the team of doctors is continuously monitoring their condition.

Chowki incharge Luhari Yasin Baig and UPED security officer Radhamohan Dwivedi, while confirming the details of the accident, said that all three heavy vehicles were going in the direction of Agra from Lucknow. Due to sudden slowing down of the speed of the truck moving ahead or fear of sudden braking, both the trucks coming behind lost their balance and rammed into each other one after the other. The middle truck suffered the most damage in this horrific collision. The driver of the middle truck, 29 year old Rajiv son of Narpal, resident of village Chadra Lalpur, police station Maholi, district Sitapur, stopped breathing on the spot. According to eyewitnesses, Rajiv could not get even the minimum opportunity to recover as he was badly stuck between the steering wheel and the seat.

Deceased Rajeev was the main supporter of his family and was involved in freight transportation. On the basis of the documents and identity card found in the pocket of the deceased, the police have informed the village head and family members of his native village Maholi in Sitapur, his home district, about this tragic incident. As soon as the news of the young man’s untimely death was received, there was chaos in the family and the family members have left for Agra.

The drivers of the other two trucks also suffered serious injuries in this triple road accident. The driver of the moving truck, Rajendra, resident of Seri Khurd, District Bharatpur (Rajasthan) was injured in this accident. His real brother and co-driver Ravi, who was present in the truck at the time of the incident, somehow managed to save his brother safely. The relief team immediately took Rajendra to the Community Health Center (CHC) Fatehabad with the help of an ambulance, where he was given first aid.

At the same time, the condition of Sonaram, the driver of the third truck running at the back of the convoy, resident of Darasar, police station Chauhtan, district Barmer (Rajasthan) is said to be very critical. Due to the strong impact of the frontal collision, he suffered serious fractures and internal injuries in his head, chest and legs. Considering the seriousness of the situation, Sonaram has been directly admitted to the ICU of Srihari Hospital in Agra city through a private ambulance from the Primary Health Center. According to doctors, efforts are being made to stabilize his condition and his family members in Barmer have also been informed about the incident.

As soon as the accident occurred, the patrolling van of UPEDA (Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority) and the police team of outpost incharge Luhari Yasin Baig took charge on the spot. Traffic on the lane from Lucknow to Agra was partially disrupted due to the accident vehicles standing criss-cross in the middle of the road. In order to protect the speeding vehicles coming from behind from any other accident in the dense darkness of the night, UPEDA security personnel immediately created a security cordon by installing barricades and red reflector lights 500 meters before the incident site.

After this, a heavy capacity hydro crane was called and the three damaged trucks were pulled to the side from the main carriageway and the glass and iron pieces scattered on the road were cleaned and the traffic was completely normalized within about an hour. Police officials say that drivers dozing off at night or overspeeding could be the main reason for this accident, for which detailed technical investigation is being done to find out the real reasons.
