The law has completely tightened its grip on social media influencer and model Shraddha Dubey, the main accused in the case of the death under suspicious circumstances of famous restaurant and cafe businessman Shiva Sharma of the capital Lucknow. After being brought to Lucknow on transit remand from Nagpur, the police presented Shraddha Dubey, her sister Rashmi Dubey and the driver in the court. After hearing the seriousness of the case, the case diary and the arguments of the investigating officers, the court has ordered to send Shraddha Dubey to jail for 10 days judicial custody/remand. During the remand application, the investigation team informed the court that the accused has been continuously evasive during interrogation, is repeatedly changing her statements and is not cooperating at all with the investigating agency in bringing out important digital evidence related to the case.
During the appearance in the court, the government lawyer and the investigating officer put forward many serious points regarding the non-cooperative attitude of Shraddha Dubey. Police officials say that during transit remand and preliminary interrogation, Shraddha was asked dozens of questions regarding the events that took place minutes before Shiva Sharma’s death, the argument that took place inside the flat, the recovered objectionable items and the contacts used during the absconding. But she either remained silent on most of the questions or tried to mislead the police by giving rote answers. Police told the court that the accused changed several mobile phones during his absconding, accessed internet from strangers’ hotspots and deleted chat history, which is likely to destroy important electronic evidence. In such a situation, to connect all the links of the case, judicial custody of the accused and further in-depth interrogation in police custody remand is very important.
Shiva Sharma’s mother Ranjana Sharma and family members have called it a planned murder from the very first day. The family’s direct allegation is that Shraddha Dubey and her close relatives had blackmailed Shiva for a long time and immense mental pressure was being put on him regarding crores of rupees and properties. Even on the day of the incident, Shiva was called by phone, after which he died after falling from the fourth floor balcony under suspicious circumstances. The family claims that she was beaten and physically tortured inside the flat before she collapsed. The family members have demanded from the police administration that a thorough financial and forensic investigation should be conducted into all the secret accounts held by Shraddha, mobile backups and the hidden funding network behind her lifestyle.
On the other hand, in the video messages released on social media before her arrest, Shraddha Dubey had completely rejected all the allegations against her. He claimed that Shiva Sharma had a huge debt of Rs 15 to 20 lakh and he was extremely troubled by calls from creditors. Shraddha had said that at the time of the incident, Shiva had gone towards the bathroom and suddenly committed suicide by jumping from the balcony. However, the police say that if Shraddha was innocent, then why did she run away from the spot while taking the body to the hospital, why did she switch off her phone, and what was the compulsion to abscond around 2200 kilometers from Nepal border to Nagpur? Shraddha has not been able to give any satisfactory answer to these questions before the police.
The special investigation team led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) has seized the smartphones, SIM cards and other electronic devices recovered from Shraddha Dubey and her associates and sent them to the State Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL). Cyber forensic experts are now busy recovering deleted WhatsApp chats, call recordings, cloud backups and location history from these devices. Apart from this, scientific matching of biological evidence and viscera report found from the spot is being done. The investigating officers have clarified that during the 10-day judicial remand, the police will take permission from the court for custodial remand and will make the accused sit face to face and do cross-questioning, so that the whole truth behind Shiva Sharma’s death can be revealed.
