Shocking revelations are being made every day in the case of Shraddha Dubey, who evaded the police and investigating agencies for 2200 kilometers during her escape. Till now it was considered to be only a case of a vicious mind personally escaping from the police, but the links connected in the intensive investigation by the police and the Special Task Force have shaken the entire investigation system. The shadow of notorious interstate organized crime syndicate i.e. ‘Z Gang’ has come to light behind Shraddha’s absconding. According to highly placed sources associated with the investigation, Shraddha had directly contacted the network of this gang to escape from the clutches of the law. The gang leaders had not only assured him of providing him a safe house and fake identity documents, but had also made arrangements to take him out of the legal limits and hide him safely in some other state or border area. But before this shield of the underworld could save him, a minor technical mistake changed the entire game.
The biggest question before the investigating agencies was that how did a single woman cross the borders of several states without any organized help and how did she bear the expenses of staying underground for so many days. Technical investigation conducted during remand revealed that within a few hours of committing the crime, Shraddha had established contact with the sleeper network of Z Gang through one of her old contacts. The gang is notorious for extortion, illegal extortion and providing ‘logistics and safe passage’ to wanted criminals in exchange for money. The gang syndicate had taught Shraddha several secret codes to evade the police and strict methods to keep her true identity hidden during the journey. Traveling in buses and general coaches wearing a burqa, keeping one’s phone switched off all the time to avoid digital surveillance and limited internet access only to strangers while walking – all this was part of the guidelines given by the same gang.
During interrogation, it has also come to light that the local operatives of Z Gang had promised to keep Shraddha hidden in a safe house in North India until the initial arrest of the police in the case and the media headlines cool down. In exchange for this protection, huge amounts of money and transactions through Hawala were also decided. On the instructions of the gang, she kept changing her location continuously so that she did not have to spend more than 24 hours at any one place. She was assured that there was ‘cover’ for her on the way to railway stations and bus stands and as soon as she entered the designated safe district limits, she would be provided with an Aadhaar card in a fake name and a new residence. This false security circle gave Shraddha the illusion that she was miles away from the reach of the police.
In the world of crime, there is a weak vein behind every trick, and the same happened in this case also. The technical handler of Z Gang had given strict instructions to Shraddha that she would not log in to any of her old social media, Google Drive or banking accounts under any circumstances. But as soon as he reached the last stage of his journey, he felt the need of his old digital cloud storage to manage one of his most personal documents and money. In this restlessness, she connected the hotspot to the phone of an unknown person and for a few seconds, she entered her old digital account, which the cyber cell had already kept on the 24-hour ‘radar’. As soon as the IP address was triggered on the cyber cell’s server, the police came to know the exact radius of the area where she was present at that time.
While the local officials of Z Gang were moving ahead with the vehicle to shift Shraddha to the new hideout, on the other hand, the police and Special Task Force team deployed in plain clothes had completely blockaded that area. As Shraddha waited for her contact near a temporary lodge, the women’s wing of the police and the local surveillance team surrounded her from all sides. Due to the protection of Z Gang, she was sitting comfortably, none of her helpers even got a chance to act on the spot. Police are now interrogating Shraddha in detail about the network that helped her escape and provided money. Police officials say that very soon those faces of Z Gang will also be exposed who run the illegal business of providing shelter to criminals who have fled from the law.
