Perform Shardiya Navratri Havan at home with this easy method

The holy festival of Shardiya Navratri is considered to be the biggest and sacred festival of worship of Shakti in Hindu religion. After ritually worshiping different forms of Goddess Durga for nine days, there is a special tradition of performing Havan on Ashtami and Navami Tithi. According to religious beliefs, Navratri worship is considered incomplete without Havan and Purnahuti. Havan is the sacred medium through which the offerings made by us directly reach the Gods and Goddesses and positive energy is transmitted in the house. If you are also thinking of performing Havan as per the rituals at your home on this Shardiya Navratri 2026, then this detailed guide will prove to be very useful for you. Let us know about the right materials for performing Havan at home, the step-by-step puja method and those powerful mantras by chanting which Goddess Durga gets pleased and bestows immense happiness and prosperity.

To perform Havan at home, first establish a Havan Kund (Vedika) at a clean place. You can use Havan Kund made of copper, iron or bricks. To make Hawan successful, it is essential to have some main ingredients which include dry mango wood sticks, camphor, pure cow ghee, hawan ingredients (which include herbs, barley, black sesame seeds, frankincense, guggul and sugar), kalava, betel leaf, betel nut, pair of cloves, batasha, akshat (rice), roli and a dry coir coconut (gola). Purify the Havan Kund by sprinkling Ganga water around it and tie Kalava (Mauli) around it. After this, light the sacred fire in the Havan Kund with the help of mango wood and camphor.

After lighting the fire, first of all small offerings are made in the name of Lord Ganesha and Navagrahas. After this, mainly Mother Durga and her nine forms are invoked. After worshiping Agni Dev, bow down to all the Gods and Goddesses in your heart. After this, the material is offered in the fire lit with wood and ghee while reciting the word ‘Swaha’. Keep in mind that while making the offering, your mind should be calm and completely pure. All the members of the family should participate together in this sacred work, because the results of worship done collectively are manifold.

It is considered best to chant the Beej Mantras of Maa Durga and the verses of Durga Saptashati during Havan. You can offer one rosary of the following main mantras or offerings as per your devotion:

  1. Navagraha Mantra: ‘Om Brahma Murari Tripurantkari Bhanu: Shashi Bhoomi Suto Mercury Guruscha Venus: Shani Rahu Ketav: Survey Graha Shanti Kara Bhavantu Swaha.’ With this mantra the evil effects of all the planets in the house are pacified.

  2. Moola Beej Mantra of Maa Durga: ‘Om Aim Hreem Kleem Chamundayai Vicchai Swaha.’ With this miraculous mantra one gets the blessings of all the nine forms of Goddess Durga simultaneously.

  3. Sarvabadha Mukti Mantra: ‘Sarvabadha Vinirmukto Dhandhaanyasutanvitah. Matsaprasad bhavishati na samasha svaha. This mantra is perfect to remove every kind of obstacle in life.

  4. Mantra for health and good luck: ‘Good luck in the body, there is supreme happiness in the healthy body. Roopam dehi jaay dehi yasho dehi dwisho jahi swaha.’ With this mantra one gets happiness, peace, health and fame in the house.

After offering the havan material along with mantras, ‘Poornahuti’ is finally performed. For Purnahuti, take a dry coconut, cut its upper part a little and fill it with some ghee, sugar, makhana and dry fruits. After this, place this entire coconut in the fire in the middle of the Havan Kund and everyone should stand together and perform the Aarti. After this, take flowers and Akshat in your hand and pray to the Mother Goddess for forgiveness if any mistake has been made during the puja. Next morning, sprinkle the cooled ash (Vibhuti) of the Havan in all the rooms of your house and apply a little on the forehead. In this way, the Havan performed as per the rituals will prove to be auspicious and beneficial for your entire family.
