Actress Rakhi Sawant, who is known as the drama queen of Bollywood and TV world, is once again stuck in serious legal trouble. Jhansi District Court of Uttar Pradesh has issued a non-bailable arrest warrant (NBW) against the actress, taking a tough stance on her non-appearance on several consecutive dates and ignoring court orders. This case is about 16 years old, which is related to her insulting a young man during her controversial reality show ‘Rakhi Ka Insaaf’ aired in 2010 and the subsequent suicide of the young man. The court has directed the police to arrest Rakhi Sawant and present her before the court on the next date.
Jhansi District Government Advocate (Crime) Mridul Kant Srivastava has confirmed this court action. The court of Civil Judge (Junior Division) Anjali, who is hearing the case, issued this warrant after the actress continuously ignored the summons. During the last several hearings of this case in the court, satisfactory presence was not registered by Rakhi Sawant or her authorized advocates. After this, the court took strict action and issued a non-bailable warrant and the next hearing of the case 1 december Has been scheduled.
This entire controversy is of October-November 2010. During that time, Rakhi Sawant’s reality show ‘Rakhi Ka Insaaf’ was aired on ‘Imagine TV’, in which it was claimed to resolve the family and marital disputes of common people on the stage.
-
Call on show regarding marital dispute: There was a rift between Laxman Ahirwar, a resident of Hansari under Premnagar police station area of Jhansi, and his wife Anita. The team of the show had called them to Mumbai to resolve their family dispute.
-
Allegations of derogatory remarks in the show: During the shooting of the show, Rakhi Sawant had made many sharp and extremely objectionable comments on Laxman Ahirwar. Family members allege that Rakhi had publicly insulted Laxman by calling him ‘impotent’.
-
Shocked youth commits suicide: After returning to his home in Jhansi on 10 November 2010, Laxman went into deep depression and committed suicide by hanging himself. The deceased’s mother Savitri Ahirwar had filed a complaint in Premnagar police station and filed a case of abetment to suicide against Rakhi Sawant and the producers of the show.
As soon as the news of issuance of non-bailable warrant came out, Rakhi Sawant reacted by releasing a video message on social media. Rakhi declared herself innocent and said that the show had aired years ago and she was only working as an anchor.
Rakhi Sawant said, “This is a case of 2010, with which I have no personal connection. I was only the host of that show and used to speak only what the channel and makers asked me to speak. The contract of that person was with the channel, not with me. Now threats are being made to exhume dead bodies and send me to jail. I have full respect for the law and the Jhansi police. Even if I have to go to jail for the people of the country, I will not back down. The law does its job. Will do and I have full faith in the judiciary.”
After the court issued the non-bailable warrant (NBW), now Jhansi Police will contact Mumbai Police for the execution of this warrant. If the actress is not able to get a stay on this warrant from the High Court (Allahabad High Court) before the scheduled date of December 1 or does not surrender in the court and apply for regular bail, then the police can take her into custody and present her in the Jhansi court.
