Kriti Sanon, one of the top actresses of Bollywood, is known for her serious acting as well as outspoken and clear views. Recently, a heated debate broke out on social media regarding a brand advertisement released on the auspicious occasion of Rakshabandhan. A section of internet users took exception to the advertisement’s depiction of traditional attire and personal freedom of women and attempted to troll the actress. Now Kriti Sanon herself has broken her silence on this entire incident and controversy and has given a befitting reply to the trollers and conservative thinkers. In a recent interview, Kriti said in a very strong tone that it is completely meaningless and unnecessary for a few people in the society to form opinions on what a woman should wear and what the cut of her blouse or dress should be.
The bone of contention was the Rakshabandhan special video campaign of a well-known fashion and lifestyle brand. In this advertisement, Kriti Sanon was seen in traditional Indian lehenga and modern designed choli. The story of the advertisement was woven around the modern brother-sister relationship, laughter and festival preparations. However, as soon as the video went public, some people on social media platforms—especially X and Instagram—began criticizing the actress’ outfit, accusing it of its design, deep neckline and not being in keeping with the traditional atmosphere of the festival. Within no time, there was a flood of various types of memes and critical posts regarding the brand and the actress, to which Kriti has now given a blunt reply.
When she was asked about this controversy in her recent interview, Kriti expressed her views without any hesitation. Kriti said, “It is very strange and ridiculous that even in the year 2026, we are debating on what a woman should wear. Five or six people sitting in a room are forming opinions about the design of my choli, its length or its neck cut and linking it to culture. A woman’s dressing is a matter of her own choice and her comfort. No third person has the right to decide what is ‘cultured’ and what is not.” Kriti clarified that incorporating modernity into traditional attire over time is not a new trend and unnecessarily sensationalizing it is a sign of narrow mindedness.

Kriti also emphasized that whenever advertisements related to any festival or culture are made, women’s clothing is always viewed through a particular microscopic lens. He said, “The basic message of the advertisement was the love between brothers and sisters, the joy of celebration and respect for each other. But some people ignored the whole idea and made only a garment an issue. If we limit art, fashion and creativity like this, the society will never be able to move forward.” She also underlined that women now know to stand firm on their choices rather than being uncomfortable with such unnecessary comments.
As soon as Kriti Sanon has come forward with this outspoken stand, she is getting tremendous support from the Bollywood circles and her millions of fans. Many fellow artists and fashion designers appreciated Kriti’s statement, saying that the spirit of festivals lies in the sweetness of relationships and not in measuring the stitching of one’s clothes. Even on social media, the youth are praising his progressive and bold statement. Kriti Sanon has once again proved that she not only plays strong female characters on screen, but also has the ability to stand up to stereotypes and online trolling in real life.
