The Tamil Nadu government has taken a very big and strict step by strictly enforcing its established two-language policy in the state. After a case of alleged use of Hindi words on a signboard installed on a state highway of the state came to light, the government took immediate action and suspended two responsible officers. After this action, the commotion in the administrative corridors has intensified.
The state government has once again made it clear through this matter that only the two-language policy i.e. Tamil and English will be officially followed within the geographical limits of Tamil Nadu. Any level officer or employee violating the rules will not be spared.
According to an official release issued by the Tamil Nadu government, two assistant engineers of the highway department had used Hindi language words on the signboard of a state highway, going against the administrative rules and established provisions.
The government’s official dual-language policy mandates the use of only Tamil and English languages on public and government advertisements, signboards or notice boards. The government considered the use of Hindi against this set policy as serious negligence and without any delay took strict action and suspended both the assistant engineers.
Taking this ignoring of rules seriously, the government has immediately initiated departmental proceedings against both the suspended officers. The state government, through its release, has warned in clear words that in future, if any officer in any part of the state is found violating the two-language policy, similar strict disciplinary action will be taken against him.
