After intermittent rains and dense clouds in most parts of Uttar Pradesh for the last several days, the mood of the weather has started changing completely. The sky has started clearing and bright sunshine has started in all the districts of the state including the capital Lucknow, Kanpur, Varanasi, Prayagraj, Gorakhpur, Meerut, Agra and Bareilly. After the weakening of the low pressure area coming from the Bay of Bengal and the local cyclonic circulation, the strength of the monsoon winds has now reduced. According to Meteorological Center Lucknow, now there is little possibility of heavy or moderate rain in the state. As the weather becomes dry, the moisture present in the atmosphere and the scorching sunlight together have started giving a feeling of humid heat, due to which people who were feeling cool in the past, have now started feeling the need of fans and AC again.
According to the latest forecast of the Meteorological Department (IMD), a rise of 2 to 4 degrees Celsius may be recorded in the maximum temperature in the entire state in the coming two to three days. While the day temperature had dropped to 28 to 30 degrees Celsius due to rain, now there is every possibility of it rising to between 33 to 36 degrees Celsius. There will be slight warmth in the night temperature also and the minimum temperature will remain around 24 to 26 degrees. The effect of strong sunlight will be most visible in Western Uttar Pradesh (Noida, Ghaziabad, Aligarh, Mathura) and areas of Bundelkhand (Jhansi, Banda, Hamirpur), where the humidity and heat in the afternoon can bother people a lot.
According to scientists of the Indian Meteorological Department, the withdrawal line of South-West Monsoon is moving rapidly from the north-western parts of the country. Monsoon has already departed from most parts of Rajasthan and Punjab and now it is slowly moving towards Central and Eastern UP, leaving the border areas of Western Uttar Pradesh. The direction of the winds has now started changing to north-westerly, which is bringing with it dry and less humid winds. Generally, between the last week of September and the first fortnight of October, monsoon completely departs from Uttar Pradesh. Considering the current weather conditions, formal departure of monsoon can be announced from all 75 districts of the state in the next few days.
The cessation of rains and the dry weather has brought news of great relief for lakhs of food providers in the state. Due to unseasonal rains in the past few days, there was a danger of the ripe paddy, sesame, millet and maize crops standing in the fields falling and the grains getting damaged. Now due to strong sunlight, the excess water accumulated in the fields will dry up quickly, due to which farmers will be able to start harvesting and threshing of paddy without any hindrance. Along with this, this dryness of the weather will also prove to be very helpful in plowing and preparing the fields for sowing of early Rabi crops like mustard, potato, pea and gram. Agricultural scientists have advised farmers to keep the harvested crops in safe barns or warehouses so that there is no loss due to any sudden weather changes.
The period immediately after the departure of monsoon is called transition phase. During this time, one begins to feel the scorching heat of October during the day and slight coolness at night. According to meteorologists, the day weather will remain dry and hot till the first week of October, but due to the effect of westerly winds in the morning and late night, a slight shiver or the knock of mild winter will be felt. Due to decrease in humidity level in the air, haze can also start in the atmosphere. Common citizens have been advised to be cautious about their health in this changing season, because due to this difference between the heat of the day and the coolness of the night, cases of viral fever, cold and allergies start increasing rapidly.
