The ten-day Ganesh Janmotsav, which started from the Chaturthi date of Shukla Paksha of Bhadrapada month, has reached its last and most emotional stage. The holy day of Anant Chaturdashi witnesses the farewell of the destroyer of obstacles, Lord Shri Ganesha and his holy immersion. After being present for ten days in homes, societies and huge pandals like a family member and a most revered guest, Bappa is now preparing to return to his divine abode. The religious importance of Anant Chaturdashi also doubles because on this day the eternal form of Lord Shri Hari Vishnu, the sustainer of the universe, is worshiped and the devotees wear fourteen knotted Rakshasutra i.e. Ananta on their arms. According to well-known Vedic astrologer Chandresh Sharma of Astropatri, since two big religious festivals are happening simultaneously on this day, it is necessary for the devotees to take special care of time management and classical Muhurta, so that both the worship and immersion work can be completed with full devotion and rituals.
Based on astrological calculations, on Anant Chaturdashi i.e. Friday, 25 September 2026, four very auspicious Choghadiya Muhurtas are being found during the day and night for Ganpati immersion. Devotees can choose any of these favorable times as per their convenience.
Morning Muhurta (Char, Labh and Amrit Choghadiya): The time from 06:11 am to 10:42 am is considered the best for immersion. At this time, the nectar of char, profit and nectar will be active, which is considered best for family happiness, business growth and health.
Midday Muhurta (Auspicious Choghadiya): Auspicious Choghadiya will be from 12:13 pm to 01:44 pm. This time is going to give auspicious results for the devotees who want to take out a grand procession of Bappa for immersion in the afternoon.
Evening Muhurta (Char Choghadiya): Char Choghadiya will remain from 04:45 pm to 06:15 pm. This time just before twilight is extremely auspicious for those families and public committees who complete the immersion journey in the evening with drums and gulal.
Night time auspicious time (Labh Choghadiya): There will be profit Choghadiya from 09:14 pm to 10:44 pm. This period will prove to provide prosperity and desired results for the devotees who take immersion at night.
Before taking the Ganpati idol for immersion, ensure the sanctity of the home temple and place of worship with Ganga water. Before immersion, the final worship of Lord Ganesha should be performed with Shodashopachar or Panchopachar method. First of all, apply roli, sandalwood, akshat and vermillion tilak to Bappa. After this, offer them the most beloved 21 Durva Dal, fresh red hibiscus or marigold flowers and fragrant perfume. Offer modak, gram flour laddu, panchmeva and fresh seasonal fruits like banana and pomegranate as bhog. Light incense and lamps and sing traditional aarti of Lord Ganesha with the entire family. At the end of the puja, fold both hands and humbly recite ‘Kshama Yachna’ mantra or prayer for any kind of mistake, mistake or disrespect committed knowingly or unknowingly, so that if there is any shortcoming in the ten days of hospitality, Lord Ganesha may forgive it and shower his immense blessings on the family.
According to Ganesh Purana and Sanatan beliefs, Ganpati Bappa is not just an idol but an actual guest of God who has come to the house. Just as food and necessary items for the journey are given respectfully while bidding farewell to a dear guest, according to the same tradition, a special bundle of ‘Pathey’ i.e. traveling food is prepared before the immersion of Bappa. Some Akshat, Durva, a betel nut, a lump of turmeric, some Dakshina (coins) and Modak or Laddus are tied in a clean yellow or red cotton cloth and the bundle is tied securely to the idol of Bappa, so that his journey is auspicious. Just before starting the immersion journey, the idol is shifted slightly towards the north from its established place, which is called ‘relocation’. This symbolizes that the puja has been completed and now the journey of immersion is beginning.
In modern times, along with religious faith, it is the duty of every citizen to take care of the cleanliness of nature and water sources. If you have installed an eco-friendly earthen Bappa at home, then it is considered best to perform the immersion in a big holy water vessel or pot in the balcony or courtyard of the house. Later that holy water and soil can be incorporated into the Tulsi or other plants in the house. If immersion is being done in a river, canal or public pond, instead of throwing the idol in the water, immerse it slowly and respectfully in the flow of water with both hands. At the time of immersion, pray to Bappa with the auspicious chant of ‘Ganpati Bappa Morya, next year you come quickly’ that he takes away all the troubles, obstacles and negativity from the house and blesses the family with happiness, peace and eternal prosperity.
