Bank Holidays: Banks will remain closed for 4 days this week! Before visiting the branch, check the complete RBI list of holidays in your city.

If in this business week you have to go to the bank branch and complete important work like check clearance, making a draft, depositing cash or KYC updation, then definitely check the official holiday calendar of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) before leaving home. Between September 14 and September 20, 2026, banks will remain closed for a total of 4 days in different banking circles of the country due to the festive season and weekly holidays. However, all these holidays will not be implemented simultaneously across the country, but have been decided on the basis of local festivals and traditions of the states.

According to the holiday list released by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) under the Negotiable Instruments Act, this week’s holidays are as follows:

• 14 September 2026 (Monday) – Ganesh Chaturthi / Sankashti Vinayak Vrat:

  
  

  Bank branches are closed in many major states of the country on the appearance day of Lord Ganesha and the holy festival of Ganeshotsav.

  
  

  • Banks will remain closed in these cities: Mumbai, Nagpur, Belapur (Maharashtra), Bengaluru (Karnataka), Chennai (Tamil Nadu), Hyderabad (Telangana and Andhra Pradesh), Vijayawada, Panaji (Goa) and Bhubaneswar (Odisha).

• 15 September 2026 (Tuesday) – Samvatsari / Nuakhai / Ganesh Chaturthi (2nd day):

  
  

  There will be holiday in selected circles on the occasion of Samvatsari, the great festival of Jain community and ‘Nuakhai’, the traditional agricultural festival of Odisha.

  
  

  • Banks will remain closed in these cities: Ahmedabad (Gujarat), Bhubaneswar (Odisha) and Panaji (Goa).

• 18 September 2026 (Friday) – Unitarian Anniversary Day:

  
  

  In the north-eastern state of Meghalaya, banks will not function due to local historical and religious significance.

  
  
  

• 20 September 2026 (Sunday) – Regular weekly holiday:

  
  

  Due to it being Sunday, all public (SBI, PNB, BoB etc.) and private (HDFC, ICICI, Axis etc.) branches of banks across the country will remain closed.

September 14, 15 and 18 will be normal working days in most cities of major states of North India—such as Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Haryana and Madhya Pradesh. Here only regular Sunday holiday will be applicable on 20th September. Therefore, account holders of Lucknow, Kanpur, Patna, Jaipur and Delhi can complete their banking operations by visiting the branch without any interruption on normal days of the week.

Despite the physical counters of banks remaining closed, customers will not face any problem in financial transactions, as digital services of modern banking will be available uninterrupted:

• ATMs and Cash Deposit Machines (CDM): The ATM network will be active 24 hours for cash withdrawal and deposits.

• Internet and Mobile Banking: Fund transfer, bill payment and FD/RD making services will remain fully operational.

• UPI and IMPS: Real-time fund transfer through Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm and Bank UPI can be done without any interruption.
