At present, a discussion has gained momentum in the corridors of international diplomacy which is giving sleepless nights to the strategists and policy makers of Pakistan. All the hopes of Pakistan of joining the world’s largest and most influential emerging economic forum ‘BRICS’ have been dashed by India’s strong diplomatic wall. Many well-known defense experts and analysts of Pakistan themselves have now started openly accepting the bitter truth that as long as India is a key founder and influential member of this group, it is impossible for Pakistan to reach the threshold of BRICS. This sharp and blunt statement of Pakistani experts has come at a time when the rulers of Islamabad are constantly trying to register their presence on international forums, but their own economic and internal policies have become the biggest hurdle in their path.
Growing global influence of BRICS group and Pakistan’s ambitions
BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa and its new member countries) has today become a powerful pole of global economy and geopolitics which is challenging the financial institutions dominated by Western countries. Many developing countries around the world are eager to become members of this organization due to its growing economic strength, initiative to trade in its own currency and multipolar world order. Neighboring country Pakistan has also been dreaming of somehow achieving BRICS membership for a long time so that its declining reputation in the international community can get some support and its crippled economy can get oxygen. But these ambitions of Pakistan seem to be in vain due to geopolitical equations and India’s tough diplomatic stance.
Pakistani expert bluntly- Why will India not allow Pakistan’s entry?
A leading political and strategic analyst of Pakistan has recently said very frankly in a TV debate and in his analysis that Pakistan should completely give up the hope of joining BRICS. This expert clearly believes that according to the rules of BRICS, the consent of all the existing member countries is required for the inclusion of any new member, and India will never allow Pakistan to enter this group. Due to the decades-long bilateral tension between India and Pakistan, terrorism issues and regional security disputes, it is not possible for New Delhi to allow a country like Pakistan to sit on the same platform with itself. India’s global diplomatic hold is so strong that it, along with other BRICS member countries, can easily foil every move of Pakistan.
Need to look inside ourselves – terrorism and economic crisis become identity
Pakistani experts have shown the mirror to their own government and rulers and said that before blaming others, Pakistan should look inward and see why it has fallen into this plight today. No responsible economic forum or organization in the world would ever want to associate with a country which is internationally recognized as a sponsor of terrorism, political instability and an economy on the verge of bankruptcy. The economic condition of Pakistan is such that it has to stand with a bowl in front of the IMF to meet the daily expenses of its country and to repay the loan. Who will give a place in a prestigious and fast-growing economic organization like BRICS to a country where there is no rule of law, where political turmoil and military interference are at its peak, and which is unable to provide basic facilities to its own people?
India’s strong global diplomacy and Pakistan’s diplomatic defeat
This entire incident once again proves the importance of economic strength, political stability and strong leadership in international politics. Today, India’s position on the global stage has been established as a ‘world friend’ and the world’s fastest growing major economy, without which no major global decision can be imagined. On the contrary, Pakistan has become completely isolated at the global level due to its wrong policies and sponsored terrorism. This statement regarding Pakistan’s entry into BRICS is a living proof of the fact that even within Pakistan, people have now started accepting that unless the basic policies of the country are improved and the focus is placed on economic development leaving aside the anti-India mentality, such humiliating setbacks will continue to be received.
