Ganeshotsav, the holy festival of the birth anniversary of Lord Ganesha, is celebrated with reverence and pomp throughout the country on the Chaturthi date of Shukla Paksha of Bhadrapada month. According to the Vedic calendar, the festival of Ganesh Chaturthi in the year 2026 will be celebrated on Monday, 14 September.
According to Panchang calculations, Bhadrapada Shukla Chaturthi Tithi will start on 14 September 2026 at 07:06 AM, while this Tithi will end on 15 September 2026 at 07:44 AM. Since the appearance of Lord Ganesha is considered to be in the midday period (afternoon time) and this period is being attained on 14th September, hence the installation and consecration of the idol of Ganpati Bappa in homes and public pandals will be done on 14th September only. According to the time of New Delhi and North India, the most auspicious midday time for Ganpati worship will be between 11:02 pm to 01:31 pm.
The great festival of Ganeshotsav lasts for ten days, in which devotees offer good wishes to Bappa with service, aarti and offering of modak.

On the day of Anant Chaturdashi, devotees will bid farewell to the idols of Lord Ganesha by immersing them in holy water bodies with chants of ‘Ganpati Bappa Morya, next year you come soon’.
From the very next day after the completion of Ganesh Visarjan, the sacred period of expressing gratitude towards the ancestors in Sanatan Dharma i.e. Pitru Paksha (Shraddha Paksha) will begin.
This fortnight, starting from Bhadrapada Purnima and continuing till Ashwin Amavasya, will start from 26 September 2026 (Saturday) this year. Purnima Shraddha will be performed on September 26, while Pratipada Tithi Shraddha will start from September 27. This 16-day Pitru Paksha will end with ‘Sarvapitri Amavasya’ (Mahlaya) on 10 October 2026 (Saturday). Immediately after this, the holy festival of Shardiya Navratri will start from the next day.
