PM-Kisan Big Update: Will farmers now get ₹ 10,000 annually instead of ₹ 6,000? Agriculture Ministry and PIB break silence on viral claim; know the truth

For the last few days, a news has been circulating rapidly on various social media platforms, WhatsApp groups and YouTube videos, in which it is being claimed that the Central Government Prime Minister Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana (PM-KISAN) There has been a big increase in the financial assistance given under.

It is being claimed in the viral posts that:

  • Farmers now get Rs 6,000 instead of Rs 6,000 every year ₹10,000 Financial assistance will be given.

  • Instead of three installments of ₹2,000 coming every four months, now four installments of ₹2,500 or the increased amount will be directly transferred to the bank accounts.

  • In some viral videos, advice is also being given to ‘upgrade registration’ for the new installment by clicking on a fake link.

After this claim, there was confusion among crores of beneficiary farmer brothers across the country.

The Fact Check Wing of the Press Information Bureau (PIB) and the Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare have investigated this viral claim and clarified that This claim is completely fake, baseless and misleading.

Main points of clarification issued by the government:

  • No increase: The Central Government has not issued any such official order or notification to increase the annual amount of PM-Kisan Scheme from ₹6,000 to ₹10,000.

  • Existing rules only apply: Under the scheme, as before, only financial assistance of ₹ 6,000 per year will be given to eligible farmer families, which is sent directly to Aadhaar-seeded bank accounts through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) in three equal installments of ₹ 2,000 each.

  • Beware of fake links: Cyber fraud gangs are trying to steal personal data and bank details of farmers by attaching fake URLs (APK files or phishing links) with such misleading messages. Farmers have been advised to trust only the official portal pmkisan.gov.in.

The main reason behind this rumor of increase in the amount of PM-Kisan scheme was the parallel farmer schemes being run by some states, which were presented on social media as national level:

  • Maharashtra’s ‘Namo Shetkari Mahasamman Nidhi’: In addition to the Centre’s ₹6,000, the Maharashtra government gives ₹6,000 per year to the farmers of the state, giving a total of ₹12,000 to the farmers there.

  • ‘Chief Minister Farmer Welfare Scheme’ of Madhya Pradesh: The Madhya Pradesh government also gives an additional top-up of ₹6,000 to farmers in the state.

  • Kisan Samman Nidhi increase of Rajasthan government: In states like Rajasthan, additional incentive amount has also been added from the state budget.

These state-level special schemes were distorted by some people to spread the word that the Central Government has increased the basic amount of PM-Kisan from ₹6,000 to ₹10,000 for the entire country.

The Agriculture Ministry has clarified that it is mandatory for eligible farmers to complete three processes in their account to get their regular installment of ₹2,000 without any interruption:

  • 1. e-KYC: Go to the portal and complete your e-KYC through Aadhaar number and OTP or through Face Authentication on ‘PM-Kisan Mobile App’.

  • 2. Land Seeding: Verification of your agricultural land as per revenue records is required as ‘Yes’ on the portal of Agriculture or Revenue Department of the state.

  • 3. Linking Bank Account to Aadhaar and NPCI: The bank account must be active and must have Aadhaar mapping for Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
