The stage of ‘Khelo India Dialogue’ is fully set with the vision of making India a global sports powerhouse and giving positive direction to the youth of the country. Top athletes, coaches, sports federations, policy makers and youth icons from across the country are coming together in this high-level dialogue being organized under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The objective of this great brainstorming is not just to increase the medal count, but to establish sports as a powerful means of character building in the society, nation building and keeping the youth away from evils like drugs. In this dialogue, a detailed roadmap will be prepared mainly on 5 big strategic issues.
1. Talent discovery and expansion of grassroots infrastructure at the grassroots level
The first and foremost agenda of Samvad is to discover and nurture the hidden sporting talent from remote, rural, tribal and North-Eastern areas of the country. After the success of ‘Khelo India Youth Games’ and ‘Khelo India University Games’, the focus is now on setting up modern sports academies at the district and block level. Under this, a concrete strategy will be made to run a scientific ‘talent hunt’ program to identify the athletic inclination of children at the school level itself and to upgrade the basic training centres, so that the talent of any promising player does not die due to lack of facilities.
2. De-addiction and positive use of youth energy through sports
A major social aspect of this dialogue is to save the youth from the trap of drugs and bring them to the playground. There will be a wide discussion on using sports as a powerful social shield to combat drug addiction. There is a plan to organize special sports leagues in sensitive and border areas by linking ‘Fit India’ and ‘Nashmukt Bharat Abhiyan’. When youth sweat in the playground and make fitness a part of their lifestyle, they will naturally stay away from drugs and anti-social activities.
3. Sports Science, Nutrition and High-Performance Training Ecosystem
In international competitions, medals are decided by hundredths of a second, hence in this meeting, emphasis will be laid on making sports science and modern sports medicine mandatory. The National Centers of Excellence (NCOE) will be upgraded to provide biomechanics, AI-based performance analysis, state-of-the-art physiotherapy and customized diet and nutrition plans to Indian athletes. Along with this, priority will be given to the appointment of former international players and coaches trained with modern techniques.
4. Preparation and podium finish roadmap to host the 2036 Olympics
India has presented its strong claim to host the 2036 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The dialogue will focus on reviewing the performance of the Paris Olympics and Paralympics as well as making the ‘Target Olympic Podium Scheme’ (TOPS) more aggressive and result-oriented for the upcoming 2028 Los Angeles, 2032 Brisbane and possible home Olympics in 2036. Those traditional and modern sports will be identified where India has the highest chances of winning medals, and those athletes will be given world-class foreign training and international exposure.
5. Building Sports Economy, Startups and Career Security
Sports has now become not just a hobby but a huge area of employment and economic growth. Under the fifth agenda of the dialogue, there will be discussion on giving impetus to sports goods manufacturing, sports technology startups and sports tourism in the country. Apart from this, a roadmap will be drawn to provide a secure post-sports future for the players, reservation in government jobs, corporate sponsorship and further strengthening of pension schemes, so that every parent in the country can inspire their child to take up sports as a full-time career with pride and confidence.
