Under the leadership and direction of Lucknow Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya, Uttar Pradesh State Rural Livelihood Mission (UPSRLM) is emerging as a strong model of women empowerment and rural self-reliance. Vidyut Sakhi Abhiyan, which aims to provide new livelihood opportunities to rural women associated with self-help groups, has achieved unprecedented achievements in the field of electricity bill collection. Along with providing respectable employment and regular income to women, this initiative is also providing door-to-door electricity bill payment facility to rural consumers.

Shri Maurya said that the Vidyut Sakhi program is an important step towards the economic and social empowerment of rural women. Due to this, the income of women is increasing and the economic condition of their families is becoming stronger. Besides, respect and trust towards women has also increased in the society. He said that the didis of self-help groups are playing an important role in effectively implementing Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of women-led development and self-reliant India in Uttar Pradesh.

Electricity bill collection of more than ₹3,562 crore

The Vidyut Sakhi program implemented through convergence between Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation and State Rural Livelihood Mission has achieved remarkable success. Mission Director Shri Arun Kumar ji said that since the beginning of the program, electricity bills worth more than ₹ 3,562 crore have been collected by 16,021 active Vidyut Sakhis. Vidyut Sakhi has earned a commission of more than ₹46 crore by successfully collecting more than 1.55 crore bills.
