Senior Congress leader and Thiruvananthapuram MP Shashi Tharoor has given a big statement regarding the party’s political strategy and working style. Advising his own party to introspect, Tharoor said that Congress will now have to move ahead from identity politics limited to caste, religion, creed or special groups. Referring to the recent ‘Cockroach Janata Party’ (CJP) movement at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, he explained that when basic issues related to the general public are raised without any social discrimination, they get wide support from every section of the society.
Need to come out of caste and narrow boundaries: Shashi Tharoor
While giving his views, Shashi Tharoor made it clear that he has been advocating for a long time that political parties should work above caste, religion, language or regional narrow-mindedness. According to Tharoor, it is important to go beyond these traditional categories and focus on important areas that have been ignored in mainstream politics for a long time. He underlined that there is a large section of the country which is struggling with daily civic problems, education system and economic challenges and becoming their voice should be the first priority of any national party.
Example of CJP movement: ‘Every section got support without caste and religion’
Referring to the protests in Delhi, Shashi Tharoor said that the ‘Cockroach Janata Party’ (CJP) had raised an issue which had nothing to do with any particular caste, creed, language or state. This was a matter of concern to the students and youth, due to which this movement got wide public support. Tharoor said that when any organization or movement frees itself from caste divisions and talks about the rights of common citizens, the public openly stands with it. He advised the party that Congress should also keep similar universal and public welfare issues at the center of its politics.
Appeal to focus on middle class and civic facilities
The senior Congress MP stressed that issues related to the country’s middle class, common urban citizens and students should be given priority. He said that quality of education, better health facilities, employment opportunities, transparent examinations and strong civic amenities are issues which directly affect every Indian. Only by raising these issues in a strong manner can the party widen its social and political reach and win the trust of the youth and general public of the country.
