Vijay government withdrew the order to ban student protests within 24 hours, know what was the whole matter

A major administrative and political development has been seen in the politics of Tamil Nadu these days. The Vijay-led Tamil Nadu government had recently issued instructions to stop school and college students from taking part in various political protests and agitations, which have been completely withdrawn within just 24 hours. After this quick U-turn of the government, discussions have intensified in the political circles of the state.

What was the order of the Directorate of Collegiate Education

According to the information received, this instruction was sent by the Directorate of Collegiate Education (DCE) to the principals of all the government arts and science colleges in the state. The main objective of this directive was to keep students away from protests organized by political parties or other organizations. Experts believe that this step was taken keeping in mind the recent campaigns run by leftist parties and some other political organizations. However, the government reconsidered this decision after questions were raised regarding the right to protest.

Judiciary’s comments and order withdrawal

The stand of the judiciary was also very important during this entire incident. The Chief Justice of the country had recently, citing his student life, laid special emphasis on the fact that students have the full fundamental right to express their views and hold peaceful protests, even if at times not everyone agrees with their opinion or viewpoint. After this ideological stand of the judiciary and increasing administrative pressure, on Tuesday, Joint Director of College Education Cynthia Selvi P issued a new order making it clear that all the previous instructions given on August 17 are being withdrawn with immediate effect.

Fix School Campaign and Student Activism

It is noteworthy that this phase of student agitations and protests came at a time when school students were seen vocal on various issues and demands. Initial administrative steps were taken to control the increasing participation of students in such campaigns, but keeping in mind the legal and constitutional aspects, the government had to withdraw its own decision within just 24 hours. Now after this decision, a new debate has started in the state regarding the rights of students and administrative policies.
