Kalki Jayanti 2026: Today is the birth anniversary of Lord Kalki marking the end of Kalyug and beginning of Satyayug; Know when and how the 10th incarnation will happen in Sambhal, UP, auspicious time and complete worship method.

Among all the festivals and anniversaries celebrated in Sanatan Dharma, ‘Kalki Jayanti’ is the most unique, mysterious and hope-filled festival in itself. Generally, birth anniversaries are celebrated of those great personalities or divine incarnations who have incarnated on this earth in the past, but Kalki Jayanti is the birth anniversary of an incarnation who is yet to be born in the future. This is a spiritual promise and timeless belief that has been waiting for centuries. According to Shrimad Bhagwat Mahapuran and Kalki Puran, when unrighteousness, sin, malpractice and hypocrisy will reach its peak in Kaliyuga, then Lord Shri Hari Vishnu will appear in his tenth and final ‘Kalki Avatar’ for the restoration of righteousness and destruction of the wicked. According to the Panchang, today, on 18 August 2026 (Shravan Shukla Shashthi), Kalki Jayanti is being observed and worshiped with devotion and enthusiasm across the country.

Last phase of Dashavatar: Who is Lord Kalki and what is his divine form?

In Hindu scriptures, out of the 24 incarnations of Lord Vishnu, there is a special description of 10 major incarnations (Dasavatar). Of these, 9 incarnations—Matsya, Kurma, Varaha, Narasimha, Vaman, Parashuram, Shri Ram, Shri Krishna and Lord Buddha—have fulfilled their divine purposes by incarnating in different eras of human civilization (Satyayuga, Tretayuga and Dwaparayuga). Now only the tenth ‘Kalki Avatar’ is left.

An extremely stunning and mighty description of the form of Lord Kalki is found in mythological texts and ‘Kalki Purana’. He will appear riding on a divine and fast-moving white horse named ‘Devadatta’. He will have a shining divine sword studded with gems in one hand, which will cut the darkness of unrighteousness and ignorance. Lord Kalki’s guru would be the immortal Chiranjivi Lord Parashurama himself, who would impart to him the knowledge of all the Vedas and initiation into divine weapons. Lord Kalki will re-establish ‘Satyayuga’ (Golden Age) by completely destroying the presiding deity of Kaliyuga and his vengeful army.

Kalki incarnation will happen in Sambhal, UP: The secret of this holy land is recorded in the Puranas.

The most authentic and detailed mention about the birthplace of Lord Kalki is found in the second chapter of the 12th Canto of ‘Shrimad Bhagwat Mahapuran’. According to the verse:

Shambhal Gram Mainsya Brahminsya Mahatmanah. भावने विष्णुयशासः कल्किः प्रदुर्भविष्यति॥

According to the scriptures, Lord Vishnu will be born as a son to a very devout and ascetic Brahmin ‘Vishnuyasha’ and his wife ‘Sumati’ in the historical and mythological district ‘Sambhal’ located in the Ruhilkhand region of Uttar Pradesh. He will have three elder brothers – Sumanta, Pragya and Kavi, who will be part of the gods and will help them in establishing the religion.

According to mythological time calculations, the total age of Kaliyuga is considered to be 4,32,000 human years, out of which only about 5,127 years have passed. Therefore, this great incarnation of Kalki will happen at the time of the last phase of Kaliyuga and the beginning of Satyayuga i.e. ‘Sandhi Kaal’. At present, many ancient temples of Lord Kalki are established in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh and the construction of a grand ‘Shri Kalki Dham’ is also going on at a fast pace, which is the center of unwavering faith of the devotees.

How to perform the complete puja ritual of the 10th incarnation on Kalki Jayanti?

The method of worshiping Lord Kalki is very simple, virtuous and gives peace to the mind. On this day, worshiping at home as per the rituals gives freedom from all kinds of fears, sins, mental distress and negative powers:

Morning preparation: Get up in the morning before sunrise, take bath and wear yellow or clean white clothes. After this, purify the place of worship by sprinkling Ganga water and take a pledge to fast or worship in front of Lord Shri Hari with water and Akshat in hand.

Altar construction and idol installation: Spread a yellow cloth on a wooden platform at the place of worship. Install the idol or picture of Lord Vishnu, Lord Krishna or Lord Kalki on it. If there is no special idol of Lord Kalki, then only the four-armed form of Lord Vishnu is worshipped.

Panchamrit Abhishek and Tilak: Bathe the idol with pure water and then Panchamrit (milk, curd, ghee, honey, Ganga water). After that apply tilak of yellow sandalwood, saffron and kumkum on the idol.

Offering Flowers and Tulsi Dal: It is mandatory to offer yellow flowers, marigold garlands to the Lord and most importantly – fresh ‘Tulsi leaves’ which are very dear to Lord Vishnu, because without Tulsi no worship of Lord Vishnu is considered complete.

Dhoop, Deep and Naivedya: Light a lamp of pure cow ghee and fragrant incense sticks. Offer seasonal fruits, yellow sweets, makhana kheer or panjiri to the Lord.

Mantra chanting and stotra recitation: During the puja, sit at one place and recite ‘Vishnu Sahasranama’ or the eleventh/twelfth chapter of ‘Shrimad Bhagavad Gita’. On this day, chanting these proven mantras at least 108 times with Tulsi rosary is considered extremely beneficial:

  • Om Namo Kalkidevaya Clean Namah

  • Om Shri Kalki Avtaraya Namah

  • Invocation and Obeisance to Lord Krishna

Aarti and forgiveness prayer: At the end of the puja, perform the Aarti of Lord Vishnu and Kalki Dev with camphor and ghee lamp. With folded hands, apologize for any mistake or mistake committed during the puja and distribute Charanamrit and Prasad among all the people present.

Importance of charity and service

On the day of Kalki Jayanti, one gets special results of serving the needy, poor and helpless people. Donating food (especially yellow rice or gram dal), clothes, umbrella, religious books and water on this day provides inexhaustible virtue. Apart from this, going to the cow shed and feeding green fodder and jaggery to the cows and arranging food and water for the animals and birds pleases Lord Vishnu very much.

Deep spiritual and philosophical message of Kalki Avatar

Apart from the gross and historical context, Kalki incarnation also has a deep subtle and symbolic meaning in Sanatan Darshan. The literal meaning of Sambhal is ‘equanimity’ or ‘place of peace’. Kaliyuga is not just a period, but a symbol of ignorance, anger, lust, jealousy and greed within man.

The incarnation of Kalki is a symbol of the fact that when distortions dominate the outer world and darkness within, then man should take up the sword of wisdom, truth, virtue and good qualities within himself and destroy his inner evils (Kali). This is the rise of true knowledge and this is the real beginning of Satyayuga. Kalki Jayanti gives us the unwavering belief that no matter how difficult the times may be, truth, religion and justice always triumph in the end.
