In Sanatan Dharma and Hindu culture, the festival of Shardiya Navratri (Shardiya Navratri 2026) is considered very sacred and energetic. According to the Vedic calendar, this year Shardiya Navratri has started from today i.e. 11 October 2026. In this festival which lasts for nine consecutive days, nine different forms of Goddess Durga, the mother of the world, are worshiped with rituals. On the first day of Navratri, there is a special tradition of doing Ghatasthapana (installation of Kalash) at an auspicious time, which brings happiness, peace and blessings of Mother Durga in the house. If for some reason you have not been able to install the Kalash at the scheduled time in the morning, then there is absolutely no need to worry, because you can also do Ghatasthapana in the auspicious Abhijit Muhurta of the day.

Simple method of Kalash establishment and Ghatasthapana
On the first day of Navratri, after taking bath in the morning, wear clean clothes and offer Arghya to the Sun God. After this, clean the temple or place of worship of your house thoroughly and purify it by sprinkling Ganga water. Now spread clean soil in an earthen vessel and sow barley grains in it. After this, fill pure water in a copper or earthen pot and add some Ganga water, a coin, betel nut, Akshat and Durva in it. Tie Kalava on the upper part of the Kalash and place mango or Ashoka leaves on it.
After this, wrap a red cloth or Kalava on a coired coconut and make a Swastika on it with Roli and place it on top of the Kalash. Now install this Kalash exactly in the middle of the earthen pot containing barley. After this, invoke Mother Durga and worship her with rituals, light the lamp and take a pledge for your fast.
