Box office clash: ‘Partition 1947’ pales in front of ‘Awarapan 2’, Emraan Hashmi’s film wins in the first weekend

The box office competition between the two big films ‘Awarapan 2’ and ‘Batwara 1947’, released in theaters on the occasion of Independence Day, is now completely clear. Within the first three days of release, the earning figures of both the films have been revealed, making it clear which film is leading in this box office race. Emraan Hashmi’s action-thriller sequel film ‘Awarapan 2’ has made a great start, leaving behind Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta starrer period drama ‘Bantwara 1947’ in terms of earnings. Both the films took full advantage of the Independence Day holidays, but Emraan Hashmi’s film has taken a strong lead at the box office.

Great performance of ‘Awarapan 2’, collected crores in three days

Emraan Hashmi and Disha Patani starrer film ‘Awarapan 2’ has surprised everyone with its tremendous start at the box office. Directed by Nitin Kakkar and produced by Vishesh Bhatt, the film had a spectacular opening of Rs 22 crore in India on its first day on Friday. After this, on Saturday there was a huge jump of about 55% in the film’s earnings and it did a business of Rs 33.75 crore. According to SACNILC data, even on the third day i.e. Sunday, the film maintained a strong hold and did a business of around Rs 26 crore. With this, the total net collection of the first three days of ‘Awarapan 2’ in India has reached Rs 82 crore, while its gross collection is touching the figure of Rs 98.40 crore. Let us remind you that even though the original film ‘Awarapan’ released in 2007 was not successful at the box office, it later got the status of Cult Classic among the audience, which seems to be benefiting its sequel.

The pace of ‘Partition 1947’ slowed down, there was a big difference between the two films

On the other hand, veteran actor Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta’s film ‘Bantwara 1947’ also had a decent opening in theatres. The film, directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and made in Aamir Khan’s production house, opened its account on Friday with a net earning of Rs 5.75 crore. After getting the benefit of the weekend, the film’s earnings increased to Rs 13.50 crore on Saturday, but on Sunday its collection declined and it did a business of around Rs 7.50 crore. If the total collections of both the films are compared, the earnings of ‘Awarapan 2’ are almost three times more than that of ‘Bantwara 1947’. This huge gap was visible from day one, when Emraan Hashmi’s film had earned almost four times more than Sunny Deol’s film.

Star cast and the challenge of the coming days

Apart from Emraan Hashmi and Disha Patani, Puran Gabbi has played the role of villain in ‘Awarapan 2’, which is being liked by the audience a lot. At the same time, in ‘Bantwara 1947’, along with Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta, well-known actors like Shabana Azmi, Karan Deol and Ali Fazal are seen in important roles. After the excellent figures of the opening weekend, it will now be very interesting to see which of these films is able to maintain its strong hold at the box office in the working days i.e. weeks starting from Monday and proves to be a horse of the long race.
