From ‘Bigg Boss 13’ to stardom: The journey from low fees to working in the industry on one’s own terms


Actress Shehnaz Gill, famously known as ‘Punjab’s Katrina Kaif’ and a household name with Salman Khan’s most popular reality show ‘Bigg Boss 13’, does not need any identity today. In a recent interview, Shehnaz made many surprising revelations regarding the initial struggles and financial aspects of her career. He told that during ‘Bigg Boss 13’, he got the least amount in the entire house i.e. around Rs 4.5 lakh per week. But after the show ended, there was such an unexpected increase in his popularity that today he is included in the list of the most expensive and popular celebrities of the country. Currently, she is making her strong presence felt in both Hindi and Punjabi cinema.

Bitter experience of working for free: Shehnaaz now fights for her rights

Shahnaz Gill believes that only the right fee for work gives real respect to a person. While narrating the bitter truth of his early days, he said that in the initial phase of his career, he worked for many people absolutely free of cost. But in return she did not get the respect and attention she deserved. For this reason, she has now decided that she will not do any work without remuneration. Shehnaaz never hesitates in demanding fees according to her hard work and strongly raises her voice for her rights. However, she says that if the story of the film is extraordinary and the script really has some substance, then she makes a little compromise in the fees.

Strict avoidance of becoming mere ‘show-piece’ or means of glamor in films

Shehnaaz Gill’s approach towards cinema and acting is very transparent and serious. She says that she does not become a part of any cheap or absurd project just to earn money. They have many other avenues available for earning like advertisements, brand endorsements and big events. She does not want to work in films just to be a decorative object or to add a touch of glamour. If her character in a big film is not strong, she rejects that too without any hesitation. Apart from this, Shehnaaz admitted that she does not know the art of persuading or flattering the producers to get a role and she does not even want to learn it.

Born on 27 January 1994 in Chandigarh, Shehnaz Gill started her professional career in the year 2015 with the famous Punjabi music video ‘Shiv Di Kitab’. Her chemistry with late actor Siddharth Shukla in ‘Bigg Boss 13’ was named ‘Sidnaaz’ by the fans, which is quite famous even today. After the death of Siddharth, Shehnaz stepped into Bollywood with Salman Khan’s film ‘Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan’ and after this she was also seen in ‘Thank You for Coming’. Till now, she has shown her acting talent in about 7 Punjabi and Hindi films and more than 20 superhit music videos (like ‘Bhula Dunga’, ‘Shona Shona’, ‘Fly’ and ‘Kurta Pajama’).
