Iranian newspaper releases ‘revenge list’ of 13 prominent leaders, including Trump, Netanyahu and Starmer Iranian newspaper releases ‘revenge list’ of 13 prominent leaders, including Trump, Netanyahu and Starmer

A sensational infographic shared online by a leading fundamentalist newspaper of Iran has sent international diplomacy and security agencies into a tizzy amid the ongoing fierce military standoff between the US and Iran. This infographic publishes the pictures and names of 13 of the world’s most influential political and military leaders and claims that they should be targeted to avenge the death of Iran’s former supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. However, no direct evidence has yet emerged of any kind of official recognition of this list by the Tehran administration or the Iranian government.

Mojtaba Khamenei’s dire warning: ‘Those responsible for the attack will yearn for a peaceful death’

The controversy began when Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, his son and potential successor, Mojtaba Khamenei, issued his first public message following the funeral of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed in joint US and Israeli strikes on February 28. Mojtaba, who himself was seriously injured in the deadly attack and has appeared in public after a long time, said in clear words that avenging his father’s death is the collective resolve of the entire Iranian nation. He said in a very aggressive statement that the people included in this list will go to the grave only with the dream of their natural and peaceful death in their hearts. Immediately after this statement, the Tehran administration-affiliated ‘Hamshahri’ newspaper shared this list on online platforms, although this controversial graphic was removed from the print edition published on Sunday.

Global faces included in revenge list: Panic from America to Europe

Mojtaba Khamenei may not have explicitly named any global politician in his speech, but the digital infographic prepared by ‘Hamshahri’ newspaper has directly made the heads of many countries the center of this retaliation. US President Donald Trump, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer are prominently featured in this hit list. Apart from these, the most powerful faces of the western world like US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Defense Minister Pete Hegseth, French President Emmanuel Macron, Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz have been included in this list.

Growing anger towards western countries: Resentment over giving airspace and remaining silent

There is a deep strategic and diplomatic resentment behind Iran’s targeting of these specific European and American leaders. Since the beginning of the war, Iran has been continuously accusing the EU and NATO member states of not only refusing to condemn the attacks on Iran’s sovereignty in international forums, but also openly allowing US fighter planes and refueling tankers to use their airspace. Iran believes that this tacit consent and military cooperation amounts to direct involvement in war crimes against it. The current rhetoric going on between the two nuclear and military powers is completely destroying the hopes of any kind of peace agreement.
