NEET-UG, the medical entrance examination across the country, was once again conducted amid tight security and unprecedented vigilance on Sunday. More than 20 lakh students tried their luck for admission to medical undergraduate courses. This time, the Education Ministry and the National Testing Agency (NTA) had made such unprecedented security arrangements that there was no scope for any irregularities.

‘Kavach’ of security: three-tier investigation and high-tech monitoring

This time, NTA had made strict security arrangements to crack down on exam mafias and those spreading false propaganda. To enter the examination centre, students had to go through a three-tier screening process—biometric, physical and document verification. 95 thousand examination halls across the country were monitored through more than 1.38 lakh CCTV cameras. Not only this, 53,311 high-capacity jammers were installed to prevent any electronic interference. The deployment of cyber commandos in every city and coordination of central security forces with local police made it a collective effort of ‘Team India’.

15 minutes extra gift for students

Giving a big relief to the students in this re-examination, NTA has provided additional time of 15 minutes. This time was mainly given for exam related paperwork, so that students could concentrate on solving their question paper for the entire three hours. This examination, which started at 2 pm, ended at 5.15 pm. There were expressions of relief and satisfaction on the faces of the students who came out after the examination.

When PM Modi stopped at the airport and cleared the way for the students

Prime Minister Narendra Modi set an example for the convenience of students during NEET-UG. When PM Modi reached Delhi Airport at 1.15 pm on Sunday, it was the peak time for students to reach the centres. Keeping in mind that the students should not face any problem due to the traffic jam caused by the PM’s convoy, they ignored their protocol. The Prime Minister waited at the airport for about 45 minutes and left from there when it was 2 o’clock in the afternoon and the examination had started.

Special attention given to every student

NTA took care of the convenience of every student appearing in this examination. Be it a student injured in a road accident in Kolkata or a student undergoing chemotherapy, special arrangements were made for everyone. Keeping in view their strong intentions, NTA had made complete preparations at the examination centers for about 10 thousand disabled students and candidates with various medical conditions.

2 lakh students remained absent, these are the reasons

According to data, this time around 2 lakh students remained absent in the examination. According to NTA sources, the main reason behind this was less time for preparation due to cancellation of the exam and some students turning to other career options like JEE, B.Sc or Nursing. NTA Director General Abhishek Singh has clarified that the examination was completely safe and no complaint of any kind of irregularity has been received.
