India Weather Update: Humidity subsided due to heavy rain, IMD issued alert of heavy rain in many states including Konkan-Goa.


Weather patterns are changing rapidly in different parts of the country. For the Mumbaikars who have been facing the scorching heat and sweaty humidity for a long time, a big news of relief has finally arrived. On Monday, June 22, the first good and heavy rains of monsoon were recorded in many areas of Mumbai and Navi Mumbai. This first shower has not only made the weather of Mayanagari pleasant, but has also brought a huge drop in the temperature. India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that the pace of rain in Mumbai will increase further in the coming days.

Monsoon advancing in Maharashtra, ‘Orange Alert’ for Konkan and Goa

According to the Meteorological Department, the conditions remain completely favorable for the advance of monsoon in the remaining parts of Maharashtra around June 23. This clearly means that Mumbai and its suburbs may see continuous rain throughout the coming week.

IMD has warned that between June 22 and June 27, there may be isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall over the entire Konkan region and Goa including Mumbai. Along with this, there is also a possibility of lightning, storm and strong dusty winds blowing at the speed of 40-50 kilometers per hour in these areas during June 22 to 25.

Pleasant weather in Delhi-NCR also, possibility of thunderstorm and rain in the afternoon

Due to cold winds coming from the mountains and western disturbance, the effect of heat will be less in the National Capital Region (Delhi-NCR) on Monday. According to the Meteorological Department, there is a strong possibility of a strong thunderstorm and light rain or thundershowers with winds blowing at a speed of 40-50 km per hour in Delhi today afternoon or evening. It is a matter of relief that today the maximum temperature of Delhi will remain between 37°C to 39°C, due to which the mercury will remain below 40 degrees.

Danger of flood in Assam, heat wave still in effect in some parts of UP-MP

According to the bulletin issued by the Meteorological Department for other states of the country, many colors of weather are being seen in different parts of India:

  • North-East India: Extremely heavy rains will continue in Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh and its neighboring states till June 25. Due to this continuous torrential rain, there is a serious threat of flash floods and landslides in the sensitive hilly and plain areas.

  • West Bengal and Sikkim: Heavy to very heavy rainfall with torrential rain is also predicted over sub-Himalayan areas of West Bengal and Sikkim throughout the week.

  • East India: There is a possibility of sporadic rain and thunderstorm with thunderstorms in Bihar, Jharkhand and Odisha. However, a separate warning of heavy rain has been issued for certain parts of Bihar and Odisha.

  • Effect of heatwave: On one hand, a large part of the country is getting drenched in monsoon, on the other hand, severe heat and heat wave conditions will still persist in some parts of Vidarbha, Eastern Madhya Pradesh and Eastern Uttar Pradesh (UP). Apart from this, temperatures can also be recorded at high levels in Chhattisgarh and Telangana.

Where did it rain the most in Mumbai? BMC released figures

According to data received from the rain gauge network of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), heavy and continuous rain was recorded in many parts of the city on Monday morning. The maximum rainfall of 24 mm was recorded at Ramabai Vidyalaya in Ghatkopar in the eastern suburbs between 6 am and 7 am. After this, 20 mm of rain was recorded in Chembur Fire Station and 16 mm of rain was recorded in Mankhurd Fire Station.

Soon after, between 7 am and 8 am, the catchment areas of Worli Sea-Face Vidyalaya and Savitribai Phule Vidyalaya recorded 25 mm rainfall each, which was the highest in the entire city. Apart from this, 21 mm of rain was measured at G-South Ward Office in Lower Parel and 17 mm of rain was measured at Worli Fire Station. BMC officials heaved a sigh of relief and said that despite this initial heavy rain, no major complaint of waterlogging or traffic jam has been reported from any part of the city.
