Sainik School and Rashtriya Indian Military College (RIMC) have always been the first choice for lakhs of youth and their parents who have the desire to serve the country by becoming officers in the Indian Army. These prestigious institutions are called the nurseries of the Indian Armed Forces, from where the cadets come out to become proud military officers of the country. But do you know how much hard work and penance is hidden behind the luxurious and disciplined life of these schools? As difficult as it is to get admission in Sainik School and RIMC, it is even more challenging to adapt oneself to the strict rules and strict discipline there. The entire day of the children studying here is spent under a strict time table, which starts in the dark of the morning.
The day starts with a 5 am parade and PT.
The day for cadets studying at Sainik School and RIMC begins with the sound of a siren or bugle at exactly 5:00 am (5:30 am in some seasons). As soon as they open their eyes, children have to make their bed neatly without wasting a minute. Immediately after this, it is mandatory for all cadets to report for PT (Physical Training) or parade ground. Be it biting cold or scorching heat, no student is exempted from morning runs, PT, Yoga and military drills. This strict morning routine makes children extremely strong physically and mentally prepared to face every challenge.
Strict discipline and zero tolerance policy is the hallmark here
The biggest feature of these military educational institutions is the strict discipline here. Very strict rules have been made for the students living here regarding uniform code, haircut and manner of conversation. Cadets’ hair should always be in military haircut and their uniform should be completely clean and shoes should shine like mirror. From classroom to dining hall (mess), it is important to follow etiquette everywhere. ‘Zero tolerance policy’ is adopted here on indiscipline, fighting or violation of rules. Even small mistakes can lead to strict punishment or even direct expulsion from the school by senior cadets or officers.
Excellent combination of sports and hobbies along with studies
After the parade and breakfast, the cadets begin their formal academic session i.e. school classes, where high level education is imparted under special curriculum of CBSE or RIMC. The time after lunch and a short rest is reserved for sports. It is mandatory for every student in Sainik School and RIMC to participate in some outdoor game like football, hockey, basketball, horse riding or swimming. Evenings are essentially self-study (Prep Time) where children complete their studies. After this, the rule of ‘Lights Off’ applies at the right time at night, after which everyone has to sleep. This balanced routine makes boys and girls responsible citizens and fearless warriors.
