For crores of Indians who have been facing record breaking heat waves for months, finally a very relieving news is coming from nature. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that the South-West Monsoon may hit the Kerala coast any moment now via the Arabian Sea.

Conditions remain completely favorable for the further advance of monsoon. Due to its effect, there is going to be a big U-turn in the weather of 17 states of the country including the capital Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh. The Meteorological Department has issued an alert not only of heavy rain in these areas, but also of hailstorm and destructive storms moving at a speed of 80 kilometers per hour.

El Nino spoiled the game, hence monsoon got delayed

Usually, every year the monsoon reaches Kerala around June 1 and the Meteorological Department had earlier predicted its arrival by May 26. But this time active in the Pacific Ocean ‘El Nino’ Due to the effect of monsoon, the pace of monsoon slowed down a bit and it was delayed by a few days.

Meteorologists say that within the next 2 to 3 days, the monsoon will completely enter the remaining parts of Kerala and Tamil Nadu as well as Lakshadweep Islands. This year, due to El Nino, some parts of the country may see slightly less rainfall than normal, but in the initial phase it will provide immediate relief from the heat to a large part of the country.

There is a possibility of hailstorm in hilly areas, storm with speed of 70 km in Odisha

In this warning of the Meteorological Department, the hilly states have been asked to be especially alert. In many areas of Jammu and Kashmir and Uttarakhand, there may be heavy hailstorm along with strong storm between June 3 and 5, due to which there is a possibility of damage to horticulture and crops. Along with this, there will be a huge drop in temperature in Rajasthan also due to sporadic rains along with dusty winds between 3rd to 5th June.

Talking about Eastern India, stormy winds with a speed of 70 kilometers per hour will start blowing in Odisha on June 2, after which there will be torrential rains during June 3 to 5. Orange alert of heavy rain has also been issued in West Bengal and Sikkim between June 4 and 6. In the northeastern states (Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura), heavy rains at the end of June i.e. on June 6 and 7 may create flood-like conditions. Overall, this week will prove to be a relief from the scorching heat for a large part of the country.
