A very scary and big news is coming out from the biggest government hospital of Patna, the capital of Bihar, i.e. Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) campus. A massive fire has suddenly broken out in an important department of PMCH. Seeing the sudden plume of black smoke rising from inside the hospital premises, there was panic among the patients, doctors, staff and attendants present there and people started running here and there to save their lives. Considering the sensitivity of the incident, it was immediately informed to the local police and fire department, after which fire brigade vehicles reached the spot with sirens sounding for relief and rescue operations.
A cloud of smoke spread within no time, people were busy in evacuating the ward.
According to initial information received from eyewitnesses, the fire is suspected to have started due to a short circuit in a particular wing of the hospital. As soon as the flames rose, suffocating thick smoke spread throughout the corridor and surrounding rooms. Due to the smoke, the patients admitted in the wards started having difficulty in breathing, after which the hospital administration and doctors without wasting time started shifting the patients to safe wards with the help of stretchers and wheelchairs. The relatives of the patients were seen running towards the safe open ground with their loved ones, due to which an atmosphere of complete shouting and chaos was created in the hospital premises for some time.
Fire brigade team engaged in fire extinguishing and rescue on war footing.
As soon as the news of fire in a sensitive and VIP hospital like PMCH was received, many vehicles of the district administration and fire brigade were immediately deployed on the spot. Firefighters have entered the hospital building wearing gas masks and water cannons are being used on war footing to control the flames. Along with this, efforts are being made to expel the smoke trapped inside the wards by opening windows and doors so that no patient suffocates. The hospital security personnel and local police have cordoned off (sealed) the entire affected area so that there is no hindrance in the rescue work.
Only after investigation will the real cause of fire and assessment of loss be clear.
It is a matter of relief that due to the promptness of the hospital management and the fire department, the rescue operation was started on time. A team of senior officials and doctors of the hospital are themselves present at the spot and monitoring the situation. However, how many valuable medicines, medical equipment or government documents of the hospital have been burnt to ashes in this accident can be accurately assessed only after the fire is completely controlled and the cooling operation is over. The administration says that their first priority is to completely evacuate all the patients and staff and prevent the fire from spreading to other wards.
