Fuel prices hit their highest level since May 2022 due to the Iran crisis, with the government saying no to panic buying Petrol Diesel Price Today: After a huge increase of ₹ 7.5 in two weeks, prices stopped today; Know the latest rates of your city and assurance from the government

Amidst the ongoing turmoil in the international market, there is relief news for Indian consumers today. On Friday, May 29, 2026, domestic oil companies have not made any new changes in the retail prices of petrol and diesel. Earlier, the last increase in fuel prices was seen on Monday, May 25, when the price of petrol increased by ₹2.61 per liter and diesel by ₹2.71 per liter.

This was the fourth time in less than two weeks that oil prices were increased in the country. The main reason for this was the impact of crude oil supply in the global market and the rise in prices due to the Iran conflict. Due to this continuous increase, there has been an additional burden of about ₹ 7.5 per liter on the general public since May 15.

Prices reached the highest level after May 2022

After the latest increase, petrol and diesel prices in the country have reached their highest level since May 2022. Before this, fuel prices had remained almost stable for about two years. However, just before the general elections in March 2024, the government had given some relief to the public by cutting petrol and diesel by ₹ 2 per liter, but the current global crisis has neutralized that relief.

Assuring the countrymen, he said, “The fuel supply situation in the country is completely normal. The government is making every possible effort to maintain continuous availability of all essential commodities.” He also said that since the beginning of global tension, the government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been doing excellent work to keep the supply system smooth.
