family background: Justice Naolekar was born in the year 1943. He belongs to a family with a highly prestigious legal background. His father was Late Prabhakar R. Naolekar was one of the well-known and veteran lawyers of Madhya Pradesh High Court.

Early journey and studies: He completed his primary higher education and law studies from Jabalpur. After graduating in commerce from Jabalpur University in 1963, he obtained LLB degree from the same university in 1965. Soon after, in December 1965, he entered the legal profession. Initially he worked with the famous jurist Justice A.P. Sen and later the country’s former Chief Justice (CJI) Justice J.S. Learned the intricacies of law by working with Verma.

Justice Naolekar’s judicial career has been extremely illustrious and practical. He has served from the grassroots level to the highest court of the country:

Initial Appointments: In the year 1983, he was appointed Standing Counsel for Raipur University, Madhya Pradesh High Court, Municipal Corporation and various co-operative societies. Along with this, he also held the post of Vice President of Madhya Pradesh High Court Bar Association from 1983 to 1989.

High Court Judges and Chief Justice: In view of his ability, in the year 1992, he was made the permanent judge of Madhya Pradesh High Court. After this, in 1994 he was transferred to Rajasthan High Court. Later on 10 June 2002, he took oath as the Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court.

Promotion to Supreme Court: On July 28, 2004, he was promoted and made the judge of the country’s highest court, the Supreme Court, from where he retired on June 29, 2008.

To find a permanent solution to this challenge, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced this committee from the ramparts of the Red Fort on August 15, 2025, which has now been implemented.

What work will this committee do?
This high-level committee has been given one year’s time to complete the work. During this period, this committee will make a scientific and practical assessment of the abnormal population changes taking place across the country. The patterns of population imbalance at the level of different religious and social communities will be analyzed and a well-planned, legal and time-bound solution to the problems related to identification and identification of illegal immigrants in border or sensitive areas will be presented to the Government.
