New Delhi: To bring light into the lives of poor and needy women of the country and protect them from diseases caused by kitchen smoke, the Central Government’s Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) has emerged even more effective in its second phase. Under ‘Ujjwala Yojana 2.0’, the government has now extended its reach to those families who were left out in the first phase. Through this scheme, lakhs of women are being given a respectable life by providing them free LPG gas connections and stoves.
Women of these categories will get direct benefits
The main focus of Ujjwala Yojana 2.0 is on those women who are economically backward and are still forced to cook food on traditional stove. The benefits of the scheme are being given to the following categories:
BPL Family: Women living below poverty line.
Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY): Antyodaya ration card holder family.
Deprived class: Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) families.
Housing Scheme Beneficiaries: People receiving benefits of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Rural).
Special Area: Families living on river islands, forest dwellers and remote hilly areas.
These facilities will be available with free gas connection
The most special thing about Ujjwala 2.0 is that no burden of initial investment is imposed on the beneficiaries. Under the scheme, eligible women get these facilities free of cost:
Free LPG Connection: No fee will have to be paid for getting a new gas connection.
Free Gas Chulha: A gas stove is also provided to the beneficiaries for cooking food.
First cylinder: In many cases, beneficiaries also get the first refill cylinder free of cost.
Installment Facility: Banks also provide easy EMI facility for future refills.
Application Process: Both online and offline options available
The government has made the application process extremely simple so that women from rural areas can also take advantage of it.
Offline Application: You can fill the form by visiting the gas agency of any company (HP, Indane, or Bharat Gas) nearest to you.
Online Registration: Interested candidates can apply directly by visiting the official portal.
Required Documents: To apply, you will have to submit your identity and address proof (like ration card, bank account details and passport size photo).
Clean fuel, better health and a bright future
The long-term goal of this scheme is not just to distribute cylinders but also to protect women from lung diseases caused by wood and coal smoke. Smoke-free kitchens not only improve women’s health, but also save cooking time, which they can use for other productive work. Besides, less use of conventional fuel also helps in environmental protection.
