News India Live, Digital Desk: The incidents of continuous disappearance of minor girls in Jharkhand have increased the concern of Raj Bhavan. Expressing deep displeasure over these matters, Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar has issued strict instructions to the police administration. The Governor has sent a letter to Director General of Police (DGP) Tadasha Mishra ordering a special review of the pending cases related to missing persons in all the districts of the state and to expedite the investigation. The Governor has made it clear that the safety of every daughter of the state should be the top priority of the government and administration.

Governor raised questions on the functioning of police

In the official letter issued by Raj Bhavan, dissatisfaction has been expressed over the sluggish functioning of the police. In the letter written by Dr. Nitin Kulkarni, Additional Chief Secretary to the Governor, to the DGP, it has been said that in many cases, laxity of the local police has led to serious consequences. Recently, Raj Bhavan has taken this strict step after the harsh comments of Jharkhand High Court in the cases of missing children of Bokaro and Gumla. The Governor has directed that it is necessary for criminals to have fear of the law so that such incidents can be controlled.

District wise list of pending cases sought

The Governor has not only given instructions, but now he himself will monitor these matters. For this, he has sought updated district wise details of pending missing cases from all the districts. This report will have to be provided directly to ‘Lok Bhawan’. The Governor had recently received memorandums from several social organizations and victim families complaining about missing minor girls and non-timely action by the police.

The effect of High Court’s rebuke was also visible

It is noteworthy that last week, Jharkhand High Court had strongly reprimanded the police in the case of a missing girl from Bokaro, after which the police recovered the skeleton of the girl and arrested the main accused. Similarly, in an old case of Gumla also, the court has given two weeks’ time to the police, otherwise it has warned that the case will be handed over to CBI. Amidst these judicial interventions, this initiative of the Governor is going to increase pressure on the police administration.

‘Zero tolerance’ policy for security

Governor Santosh Gangwar has stressed that it is imperative to create a safe and fear-free environment for girls in the state. He has asked the police to adopt a policy of ‘zero tolerance’, especially in cases where there is a suspicion of human trafficking. Instructions have been given to the administration to immediately register an FIR and start a search operation during the ‘golden hour’ as soon as information about the missing is received, so that the daughters can be brought back safely.
