News India Live, Digital Desk: Amidst the campaign for West Bengal Assembly elections 2026, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has given the strongest warning to Pakistan so far. Addressing an election rally and road show in Barrackpore, Rajnath Singh sharply hit back at Pakistani Defense Minister Khawaja Asif’s statement on ‘attack on Kolkata’. While teaching a lesson of history to the neighboring country, he reminded that 55 years ago (in 1971), Pakistan had broken into two pieces due to its audacity, but this time if it even raised its eyes towards Bengal, “God only knows how many pieces it would be divided into.”
A befitting reply to Pakistani minister’s ‘blabbering’
The controversy started when Pakistani Defense Minister Khawaja Asif gave a provocative statement in Sialkot saying that if India conducted any ‘false flag operation’, Pakistan would respond by attacking ‘Kolkata’. Countering this, Rajnath Singh said, “Pakistan’s Defense Minister should not have made such a provocative statement. He should not have forgotten the consequences of the 1971 war. If he casts an evil eye towards Bengal, then no one can even imagine what would be the condition of Pakistan this time.”
Countering Abhishek Banerjee’s allegations: “I am enough to answer myself”
During the rally, Rajnath Singh also responded to the allegations of Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Abhishek Banerjee, in which he had asked why Prime Minister Narendra Modi is silent on Pakistan’s threat. Rajnath Singh said in a clear tone, “Abhishek Banerjee is asking why the PM is silent? I want to tell him that being the Defense Minister of the country, I myself am fully authorized to speak on this issue and my answer is the answer of the Government of India. It is not necessary for the Prime Minister to speak on every small thing.”
‘Operation Sindoor’ is not over yet: Warning to terrorists
Referring to the Pahalgam terrorist attack that took place in May 2025, the Defense Minister reminded the bravery of the Indian Army. He said that during ‘Operation Sindoor’, Indian warriors had brought Pakistan to its knees in just 22 minutes. Rajnath Singh said in strong words, “I want to tell the neighboring country that Operation Sindoor is not over yet, it has only stopped. If any nefarious activity happens again from across the border, our army will give such a response which the future generations of Pakistan will also remember.”
Bengal elections and echo of nationalism
In view of the 2026 assembly elections in West Bengal, BJP has made nationalism and internal security a big issue. This statement of Rajnath Singh is being seen as instilling confidence in the voters of Bengal, especially the people of the border areas. He said that under the leadership of Modi government, India is no longer a ‘submissive’ country, but has the ability to kill by entering the house. After this statement of the Defense Minister, the issue of ‘Pakistan and security’ has become heated in the electoral politics of Bengal.
