MP’s argument: ‘Experience is the biggest test’ (Experience vs TET)

The MP argues that teachers who have been teaching children for 20 years have a wealth of experience which is greater than any written examination.

Relief from stress: At this age, it is mentally and familially challenging for teachers to prepare for competitive examinations again.

Respecting Experience: 20 years of service in itself is proof of his ability.

Shortage of teachers: With this relaxation, the services of many experienced teachers will be able to continue smoothly, due to which there will be no shortage of teachers in schools.

The complications and current status of the rules

Under the Right to Education Act (RTE), it is mandatory for teachers in government and aided schools to pass TET.

Problem of old teachers: There are many teachers who were appointed before the implementation of the RTE Act, but due to changes in the rules, their jobs remain hanging.

Supreme Court instructions: Courts have from time to time declared TET mandatory, due to which state governments remain under pressure.

Teachers’ demand: Teachers organizations have been demanding for a long time that ‘in-service’ (working) teachers should be exempted from this examination.

What will be its effect?

If the government accepts this proposal, lakhs of primary and secondary teachers across the country will directly benefit. However, a section of education experts also believe that quality should not be compromised.
