News India Live, Digital Desk: Have you ever noticed how hasty we become while typing on mobile? In this haste, sometimes ‘0’ gets printed instead of ‘9’ and our money reaches a stranger instead of the correct address. First of all, know that in such a situation ‘panic’ is the biggest enemy. If this happens to you, try these steps:
1. Contact the person directly (if the number is known)
Many times it goes to an acquaintance or someone nearby. Talk to him politely and ask for your money back by showing the screenshot of the transaction. Most of the people return it, but if the person refuses or does not pick up the call, then you will have to take help of law and technology.
2. Report instantly on payment app
Whether you are using Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm or any government app, go to its ‘Help’ section and complain about ‘Inaccurate Transaction’. Keep a note of the transaction ID and time with you. Every app has its own complaint mechanism which can initiate the process of reversing the transaction in such a situation.
3. Meet your bank manager
This is the most concrete step. The sooner you visit your bank’s home branch, the better your chances. Give a written application to the bank manager, in which tell the complete details. As per RBI rules, if the money has gone to the wrong account, it is the responsibility of the bank to help you get it back. If the receiver’s account is in the same bank, the matter gets resolved in 2-3 days.
4. NPCI and Banking Ombudsman
If the app or bank is not listening to you, then directly NPCI (National Payments Corporation of India) Visit the portal of. Register your complaint there in ‘Dispute Redressal Mechanism’. You can also complain online to the Digital Transactions Ombudsman of RBI.
My advice:
Before sending a large amount of money to anyone, always send Rs 1 and check whether it is going to the right place or not. A little caution can save you from these huge troubles. Remember, this money is your hard work and you have every right to get it back. Just don’t give up!
