Delhi Metro Golden Line: Some time ago, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has taken a big decision. According to this, under the Metro Phase-4 project, the name of 25.82 km long Silver Line has been changed to Golden Line. Now it will be known as the Golden Line.
This mostly underground line (Line-10) with 16 stations was officially given the silver color code in September 2020, but in view of the visibility problem in bad weather, it has been decided to change the silver color code to golden. Actually, the stripe of the same color was not clearly visible on the silver colored coach.
Golden Line is an under construction rapid transit line of Delhi Metro. It will directly connect South Delhi to IGI Airport to provide relief from increasing traffic, congestion and pollution on the roads. Earlier it was planned from Delhi Aerocity and it would terminate at Tughlakabad.
There will be 16 stations under this 25.82 km long corridor. In this, four stations will be elevated and 12 underground. Construction work on this line started in June 2022.
Apart from the Golden Line, two other corridors are also under construction in Phase 4. These include the extension of the Magenta Line from Janakpuri West to RK Ashram and the extension of the Pink Line from Majlis Park to Maujpur. The construction work of the fourth phase is expected to be completed by March 2026.
Timeline and Cost
The estimated completion date for construction of Phase 4 is December 2024; Work started in March 2023. However, as per recent updates, completion may take till March 2026. In the budget for 2023-2024, Delhi Development Authority has set aside Rs 350 crore for DMRC. It is estimated that the total cost of the Phase 4 extension, which also includes the Golden Line, will be around Rs 55,000 crore.
