Winter has once again started showing its true colors in Bihar. When people woke up from their sleep on Wednesday morning, more than 10 districts of the state including Patna, Gopalganj, Bettiah and Kishanganj were covered with a blanket of dense fog. The situation was such that it was becoming difficult to see just a few meters away, due to which people going to work early in the morning had to face a lot of trouble. Amidst the harsh cold and shivering, people in the villages were seen trying to keep themselves warm by lighting bonfires.

Mercury reached 8 degrees, this season’s record broken

According to the Meteorological Department, this cold wave will continue for the next 3 to 4 days. During this time fog will also be at its peak. You can estimate how extreme the cold is from the fact that the minimum temperature in Sabour of Bhagalpur and Aurangabad has dropped to 8 degrees Celsius, which is the lowest temperature so far this season. Even on Tuesday the mercury in Sabour was 8.4 degrees. Apart from this, many districts like Madhepura, Khagaria and Patna have also been covered with dense fog for the last 24 hours.

Why did it suddenly become so cold?

According to meteorologists, the main reason for this melting cold is the icy westerly wind coming from the mountains. When this cold air comes in contact with moisture, dense fog is formed in the morning. Its maximum impact is being seen in the districts of Eastern and North Bihar, where the temperature is falling several degrees below normal in the morning and late night.
