News India Live, Digital Desk: The year 2025 is moving towards its last stop, but while leaving it is giving us a very special gift. ‘Mokshada Ekadashi’.We Indians are fond of food and festivals, but when it comes to earning virtue, we leave no stone unturned. But often unknowingly we make some small mistakes due to which we do not get the full results of the fast. So, let us understand in simple language today when is Mokshada Ekadashi this time and what we have to do (and what not to do at all!).

When is Mokshada Ekadashi 2025? (Date and Timing)

This time you do not need to be confused. According to the calendar, Mokshada Ekadashi fast Monday, December 1, 2025 Will be kept.
This day is also very special because on this day Lord Shri Krishna preached Geeta to Arjun, i.e. on this day Geeta Jayanti Will also be celebrated. Double celebration and double virtue!

Why is ‘rice’ the biggest enemy on this Ekadashi?

Perhaps you might have heard from the elders in the house, “Son, today is Ekadashi, do not eat rice.” Have you ever wondered why?
According to religious stories, on the day of Ekadashi, the blood and flesh of ‘Maharishi Medha’ is believed to reside in rice. In simple words, according to the scriptures, eating rice on the day of Ekadashi is considered a big sin. Even if you are not fasting, still stay away from rice and rice products (like dosa, idli, poha) on 1st December.

Don’t make these mistakes even by mistake (Don’ts List)

Fasting is not just about fasting on this holy day, but keeping one’s behavior pure is the real worship. Keep these things in mind:

  1. Do not touch basil: The worship of Lord Vishnu is incomplete without Tulsi, but Be careful! Tulsi leaves are not plucked on the day of Ekadashi. Pluck the leaves a day before (on Dashami) and keep them.
  2. Anger and condemnation: Fasting means peace of body and mind. If you are fasting and are speaking ill of others or being angry throughout the day, then that fast is not ‘upvas’, but only ‘langhan’ (being hungry).
  3. Avoid sleeping: If health permits, do not sleep on the afternoon of Ekadashi. Do bhajan-kirtan in the evening.
  4. Tamasic things: On this day, onion, garlic, meat or liquor should not enter the house.

What to do on Mokshada Ekadashi that will change your luck? (Dos List)

  • Lesson of Geeta: Since it is also the day of Geeta Jayanti, then read at least the 11th chapter of Shrimad Bhagwad Gita. If you don’t know how to read, then listen. It is said that this brings peace to the ancestors.
  • Yellow magic: Lord Vishnu loves yellow color very much. Offer yellow flowers, yellow fruits (banana) and yellow sweets in the puja. It would be even better if you yourself wear yellow clothes.
  • Deepdan: In the evening, light a ghee lamp near the Tulsi plant and revolve around it 11 times.
  • help the poor: It is cold season (December), so donating warm clothes or blankets to a needy person is the biggest puja.

Rule of breaking the fast (Parana)

Those who are observing fast, they will do so on the next day i.e. morning of 2 december 2025 Take food only after performing puja. Never break the fast with heavy food, take fruits or satvik food first.

One important thing while leaving:
Mokshada Ekadashi means ‘the one who gives salvation’. This day reminds us that in the hustle and bustle of life, it is important to pause and think about our soul and our deeds. So this time on 1st December, whether you fast or not, keep your mind clean.

Say Jai to Banke Bihari Lal!
