The importance of monthly Shivratri falling in the month of Margashirsha (Agahan) increases even more. Why keep fast only on 18th November?

This time there may be confusion regarding the date of monthly Shivratri. According to the Panchang, the Chaturdashi Tithi of Margashirsha Krishna Paksha will start at 07:12 AM on Tuesday, November 18, 2025 and will continue till 09:43 AM on Wednesday, November 19.

In the scriptures, worshiping Shivratri at night, i.e. during Nishita period, is considered most fruitful. This auspicious time will be available only on the night of 18th November. Therefore, it would be best to observe fast and worship on 18th November.

Most auspicious time of puja

The best time to worship Lord Shiva on this day is Nishita period.

  • Nishita Kaal Puja Timings: On November 18, late night will be between 11:42 pm to 12:36 am.

This time two auspicious Yogas are being formed on Shivratri

This year, the monthly Shivratri of November is going to be even more special, because two very auspicious yogas are being formed on this day.

  • Ayushman Yoga: This yoga will last till 08:09 am.
  • Saubhagya Yoga: Saubhagya Yoga will start immediately after the end of Ayushman Yoga.

The results of worship done during these auspicious yogas increase manifold and the wishes of the devotees are fulfilled.

Bhadra’s shadow will also remain

There is also a combination of Bhadra on this day, which will last from 07:12 am to 08:27 pm. However, Bhadra has no effect on the worship of Lord Shiva because he himself is Kaal Mahakaal.

How to please Lord Shiva?

  • Wake up early in the morning, take bath and wear clean clothes.
  • Take a pledge to fast with water in your hand.
  • Anoint the Shivalinga in the home temple or by going to a nearby Shiva temple. It is best to perform Abhishek with Ganga water or milk.
  • Offer his beloved Belpatra, Dhatura, Bhang, Akshat and flowers to Lord Shiva.
  • Keep chanting the mantra “Om Namah Shivay”.
  • Reciting Shiv Chalisa and Shiv Stotra is also very fruitful.
  • At the end of the puja, perform Aarti of Lord Shiva and distribute Prasad among the family.
