Winter has knocked in Madhya Pradesh and its effect is now clearly visible. The icy winds coming from North India have increased the cold in many areas of the state, especially in Gwalior, Chambal, Ujjain, Indore, Sagar and Bhopal divisions, the temperature has dropped rapidly. However, the pace of cold is a little slow in Pachmarhi, a hill station situated in the southern part of Madhya Pradesh.

Bhopal and Indore turned out to be colder than Shimla!

You will be surprised to know that Madhya Pradesh is experiencing more cold than many cities of North India at this time. If we look at the figures of the last two days, the night temperature in Dehradun, the capital of Uttarakhand, was 10 degrees Celsius and in Shimla, the capital of Himachal, it was 8.2 degrees Celsius. At the same time, the mercury dropped to 7.6 degrees in Indore, Madhya Pradesh and 8.2 degrees in Bhopal. This sequence has been going on for the last one week.

What is the temperature in different cities of the state?

According to the Meteorological Department, the maximum impact of cold winds is in the northern areas of the state. Rajgarh has recorded its coldest nights, with the minimum temperature reaching 7.4 degrees Celsius.

Condition of other major cities:

  • Umaria: 8.4 degrees
  • Reva: 8.9 degrees
  • Shivpuri: 9 degrees
  • Jabalpur: 9.9 degrees
  • Ujjain: 10.7 degrees
  • Gwalior: 11.4 degrees

Apart from this, 10.1 degrees temperature has been recorded in Mandla, 10.2 degrees in Betul and 10.9 degrees in Datia. The mercury is gradually falling in other cities of the state also.

Many districts in the grip of ‘cold day’ and ‘cold wave’

The Meteorological Department says that conditions like ‘cold day’ and ‘cold wave’ are prevailing in many areas of Madhya Pradesh. There is a ‘cold day’ situation in Anuppur and Balaghat, while many districts of Bhopal, Indore, Ujjain, Sagar and Shahdol divisions are in the grip of cold wave.

What is ‘cold day’?

‘Cold Day’ is declared when the minimum temperature of a place drops below 10 degrees and the day’s maximum temperature also falls by 6.5 degrees or more than normal. That means both day and night are very cold, as is happening in Anuppur and Balaghat right now.

According to the Meteorological Department, the effect of cold will increase further in the second week of November. Its impact will be most visible in Gwalior-Chambal division, because the icy winds of North India are directly affecting there.
