News India Live, Digital Desk: The news of relief has finally come for 48 laborers from Jharkhand who were stranded in the African country Tunisia for the last several months. After the intervention of Chief Minister Hemant Soren and the tireless efforts of the state government, all the workers will return to India safely on November 5. This is a great news for those families who were in deep distress and worry due to their people being stranded abroad.
What was the whole matter?
These 48 laborers hailing from Giridih, Hazaribagh and Bokaro districts of Jharkhand had gone to Tunisia with the dream of a better future. He was working there in an Indian company ‘KEC International’, which works in laying power transmission lines.
The workers allege that the company kept everything fine in the beginning, but later they were not paid salaries for several months. When they demanded their outstanding wages and to be sent back to India, the company confiscated their passports and put them in hostage-like conditions in a camp. These workers were completely dejected due to food shortage and uncertain future.
A viral video appealed to the government
When no solution was found, these workers took the help of social media. He made a video and narrated his pain and uploaded it on social media. In this video, he directly appealed to Chief Minister Hemant Soren and said, “Hemant Soren ji, we will die here, please save us from here.”
This video went viral within no time and reached Chief Minister Hemant Soren.
Chief Minister took immediate action
After taking cognizance of the video, Chief Minister Hemant Soren immediately directed the Labor Department officials to take action on this matter. The State Migrant Control Room swung into action and contacted the Ministry of External Affairs and the Indian Embassy in Tunisia.
The Labor Secretary and the Labor Commissioner themselves monitored the matter and along with the Embassy put pressure on the company management. After continuous pressure from the government, the company management agreed to bow down.
The company paid the dues and arranged for the tickets.
After the intervention of the Indian Embassy, the company management has paid the outstanding salaries of all 48 workers and also arranged for plane tickets for their return to India. All the workers will fly from Tunisia to India on November 5 and land in Delhi, after which they will be sent to their homes in Jharkhand.
This case once again proves that if the voice reaches the government at the right time, then the entire system can come into action to help the Indians stranded abroad.
