A small plane carrying foreign tourists has crashed in Kwale County, the coastal area here. 12 people are feared dead in this tragic accident. The plane was headed for the Masai Mara National Reserve, one of the world’s most famous wildlife safari destinations.
The accident happened a few minutes after take off
Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) has confirmed the accident. According to officials, the Cessna Caravan-type aircraft had the registration number 5Y-CCA. The plane took off from Diani airport and lost contact with air traffic control within minutes. Later its burnt debris was found in a densely forested and hilly area.
A total of 12 people were on board the plane, including 10 passengers and 2 crew members. Kwale County Commissioner said that all 10 passengers on board the plane were foreign tourists, although no official information regarding their nationality and identity has been revealed yet.
The plane became a ball of fire
According to eyewitnesses and local media reports, the plane burst into a ball of fire soon after takeoff and fell on the ground with a loud bang. A video of this accident is also going viral on social media, in which the wreckage of the plane is seen completely burnt and there is a cloud of smoke all around. The scene is so horrifying that anyone’s heart can tremble after seeing it.
Rescue work continues, bad weather is becoming a hindrance
As soon as information about the accident was received, local police and rescue teams reached the spot. However, rescue and relief operations are facing huge difficulties due to bad weather and heavy rains in the area. Officials have started investigating the cause of the accident to find out whether it happened due to a technical fault or some other reason.
The plane was scheduled to land at the popular Kichwa Tembo airstrip among tourists, which is the gateway to the Masai Mara National Reserve. Every year millions of tourists from all over the world visit the Masai Mara to witness its spectacular wildlife and the Great Wildebeest Migration.
